They're using this as evidence as to why people shouldn't be able to pull the plug, but I think it's the other way around. If I was this man I would have wanted to be dead 23 years ago.

who knows, he may have seen some kinky stuff or what really goes in hospital, with the nurses unaware that he's actually awake.

But yeah I agree it must've destroyed his mind, I reckon for the first years or decade he must have wished he was dead, and then before somehow accepting that it's not going to happen.
