Socoder -> On Topic -> Things You Never Finished...

I've decided to take a month off from the craziness of AGameAWeek, but over the past couple of months I've dug up a surprising amount of unfinished projects that aren't yet in my Archive. As such, I'm currently planning to release one-a-week, and post those as some sort of "AGameAWeek - Unfinished!" series, during September.

Green-16 will be the highlight of the list.
A multiplayer-based collection of games, allowing up to 4 players to play on one PC, with AI players taking empty slots.
I worked on the game for months, but this was a long long time ago, before I had my complete network up and running, and long before I bothered doing backups.
As a result, when the Hard Drive crash occurred, I lost a bucketload of unfinished code.
Luckily, I had, however, backed up a test version that I sent to a friend, so I still have that.
It's all that remains of the game, and it's still quite fun to play.

I'll be popping it up on AGameAWeek at some point during September, but for now you can Download Green-16 here.

I never have been able to get into the mindset of starting it all over again. A great loss, methinks.

..

What haven't you finished, and why?

I do finish most things I start - whether I release them is a different matter though.

One of my biggest, non-finished works though is/was a remake of Chuckie Egg.

I started this back in around 2002 when I was coding in Div. Unfortunately my computer decided to commit suicide (yes, really - not like the "hard drive crashes" of noobs that promise the earth and then never deliver).

Luckily there was a playable demo on Div Arena AND on my own website. Unfortunately Div Arena was killed without any warning and I changed ISPs. I didn't give a thought to the fact that my website was hosted by my old ISP. Yeah - when you leave them, they dump your stuff. Therefore I lost all code, demos and everything related to it. Or so I thought.

Rummaging through some CDs back in 2009 I found most of the graphics that I created for the game and restarted my remake with what I had, but now in GLBasic. It was going well and I was really enjoying doing it. And then, for some reason, I stopped. I can't remember why. Maybe that's when I got into mobile development (eg GP2X etc).

Anyway, I posted some of the graphics here in Spinal's thread and a vid too. In case you missed it, here it is in action.
