Cat Toy advice

Funny question to ask I suppose. Mrs Hewco and me found ourselves looking at cat toys online. Bought one of those balls locked in a tower thingy on different levels and a flapping catnip fish. Will see if that is £18 well spent or not tomorrow.

But now I've become obsessed with all the potential cat toys I can buy, which the cats may just ignore. Got my eye on this one, and there is a range of add-ons available too:

Anyone with cats tried something like this? There are some videos that look like the cats enjoy it.

Main goal is to give me some peace in the evenings for a few minutes, not having to wave a piece of string about to keep an energetic kitten occupied while trying to watch a bit of Bake Off or similar no-brain TV.

Had one of those "ball in a track" things.

.. the local charity shop appreciated the donation.

lol - oh dear.

I can see that happening with our older cat. Our kitten is mad a bag of kittens so I'm hoping it will draw her attention for minutes at a time.

Molly just plain doesn't give a flying fuck about anything, except for one single item.

... lollipops.
Preferably a Swizzles Double-Lolly.
They're easy for her to throw around, do crazy spins, and they have little tails that swirl about, too.
She fucking LOVES playing with lollipops..

But .. the dryer the better. It isn't a good idea to give a cat a boiled-sweet lollipop, or a drumstick-style chewy one.
It WILL get lost behind furniture, and then you'll find it in a year or so, then in a gooey mouldy mess!!!
So.. go for double-lolly.

(With the wrapper still on, of course!)

Retailers are the only animals that benefit from cat toys. They really are all a waste of money. Every cat we've had would rather play with a piece of string, rubber band, feather or paper bag than a wind-up mouse etc. etc.

Laser pointers are good for 30 seconds - once they twig that, no matter what, they can't catch the dot, they give up.

@Jay - Never tried lollipops TBH

Piece of multicoloured string makes both go crazy but that requires effort from myself and puncture wounds in hands, legs and feet.

The ball thing keeps them amused for short periods of time, but maybe not worth £9.

The flappy fish for an hour at a time and minimal interaction from me (to start it going again if they get tired of it). It really draws them to it until they are worn out, or the battery in the fish needs charging again. So £9 for that better value. Very loud though on the floorboards.

They really are ungrateful buggers, aren't they!

My cats totally dug this thing

But basically it doesn't really matter what you get them, just be sure they're all hopped up on catnip. I had a sealed container full of dried catnip and filled it with balls and different toys. Then when I would give them a few of those, they'd big out.

We also had pretty good fun with the laser pointer and could run the cats all over the house and even run up the walls.

None of my cats have enjoyed catnip. Ever.
