Socoder -> Off Topic -> Antivirus in 2022

What sort of antivirus trojan/malware/rootkit tools are people using these days? Is Malwarebytes still relevant or has that ship sailed. I seem to remember hearing that Spybot Search & Destroy became compromised in some way, maybe shipping with adware itself or something like that. I also wonder about Windows Defender, if that does anything at all and if it's worth updating the definitions still. I have used Kaspersky's TDSSKiller for years and as far as I know, it's still stable.

I use Malware-bytes and Windows Defender - better solid combo.

I'm only using AVG because I stupidly bought a license last year and it purchased itself again this year. I hate it. It really slows everything down. And the "FULL" version doesn't include the additional features it keeps advertising... If I want those it's another chunk of change. I really need to find out my account details and cancel auto-renewal. Thing is most things let you know they are going to auto-renew - this virus (sorry, AVG) didn't. AVG has cost me more than any virus...

I used to use the free version of AVG (yearsa ago) in conjunction with Windows Defender and ran MalwareBytes every so often, but I never seemed to get much infection, so stopped using the combos and decided just o stick to the one, supposedly the best. Don't be an Ian. Don't buy AVG.

WinDefender is "good enough", with the occasional Trend Housecall scan to keep everything double protected.

But, honestly, it's the lack of Kazaa, Limewire, Torrents and all, that's kept my system clean. The day I stopped all of that stuff, I was surprised by how infrequent the virus alerts became.
Mid 2000s was a format every few months.
.. but a boatload of great music and tv!!

Free version of Panda for real-time with ClamWin for a second scan for downloaded items. Panda is the only one I have found that does not slow my system down even when I was on the clunker of a tablet for many years.
