File Error

I've got specific files that when they are being copied, the system tells me that it will take more than a day. No other files on the drive do this but when the copy process gets to those files I get the query, more than a day before the copying is completed.
What is the problem?
It cannot be the disk because I get the same response wherever the duplicates exist. I don't think it's the files because they work fine; they just copy slowly.

Are you copying a lot of files at once. Usually the issue there is that there's a lot of tiny files. That's a fairly hefty bottleneck when it comes to Windows estimating times.

I used to stick everything in a zip file, not even worry about how much compression, cop the zip, then unzip it. It always felt quicker that way.
But year, lots of files is always slower to copy than single big files, especially over a network.

If you can use an FTP program to do it, instead of Windows Explorer, I typically find that to be much more reliable as far as timings go.

Yes, I am. But I am using clustered copying meaning that the cluster of files slowing down is not the only one of that size.
For Example I might drag 10 Gig approximately each cluster. There would be 8, 10 GB clusters going, but only certain files continually give the 'More than a day' message when in a cluster while the others tell me about the same time which would be 35-45 minutes.

Would File and folder compression make a difference? I'm not using it but should I?

No.
That's still Windows transferring lots of files. It'll be much the same.
