Moving hosts...

DNS worries.

I'm moving hosts again. I've found a decent one which has the stuff that I need. This time I'm with Servage.net, a UK based one. If anyone else wants to sign up, use "tophatstuff" as a coupon to get an extra 25GB of web space free It means that I get an extra 25GB free too if you do

Though, hang on a sec...

I'm still testing, and haven't let things process and set up yet.

My domain name is pointing, but my ISP or something is unusually slow at giving me the new DNS addresses... so I'm blind here as I'm still getting my old freewebs site.

Could someone with half a second do me a favour and visit www.tophatstuff.co.uk for me and tell me if they see a working website (my old freewebs one!), an error page, or a page with place holder content?

Otherwise I'll have to wait another 48 hours when I've discovered I've done it wrong!

Thanks for your time

The site displays the message...

"TopHat Stuff. We are currently setting up our new server. Please hang tight!"

Your welcome. Sort of an impulse buy. I have been shopping around to find the best host and I decided that that was the one. I got and email saying that it would be about 48 hours until the domain is activated.

Bah, you did worse than no HTML at all - you used a <h1> and a <h3> with no <h2> in between!

What do you see! I dont even see the file that I created.

I get:

Website not yet configured

The website you are trying to access is
unknown in the system.

Best regards,

If anyone else signs up you can choose between Hobo's code and mine:

kryptonmedia to get 25GB more free hosting space.
Sunday, 25 February 2007, 19:23
HoboBen
I get

"Krypton Media
We are finishing the entire site's design. It should be uploaded soon"

Just sit tight and wait for the name servers to settle

In the meantime, you can now contact me from contact AT tophatstuff.co.uk

And that gives me the excuse to use Thunderbird

Hey, the bonuses never stop - they've increased my web space 5MB and apparently increase it by 5MB every day. Wowie

Omg, that cool! I hope I get that too!
Sunday, 25 February 2007, 20:45
HoboBen
I think you do

I'd find it hard to fill all that space, if it wasn't for the feature where you can use the site as a hard drive (Like C:/> but instead S:/>), which'll take a lot of abusing

Have you tried that out yet? I think it's damn cool, and better than an FTP client even.

I would except for my parents won't let me have internet in my room and we have dial-up (we live in the country so we cannot get anything faster except for satellite but that is too expensive)

HoboBen
Ah, that's a shame. So, are you stuck to the online file manager then?

Gosh, it must be impossible to upload 300GB over a dial up connection!

seing as it took 4 strait days to download 400MB(VisualC++) yes. But i use FireFTP

How do we set up subdomains (newsubdomain.krypton-media.com)

I tried in web server under new virtual host and I even changed the directory root for it to what I wanted and it still brought up whats on my main site?

On some webservers things like
test.server.com
actually redirected to
server.com/~test/

I don't know if that's an automatic thing, but try making a ~test path, and see if it does it itself.

This is what it looks like:

It doesn't work straight away. I got the redirect-to-main-site problem, and left it to fix overnight... and it fixed itself.

It's name servers taking time to update, and the settings has to change across each copy of your site that's hosted on the clustered system.

Ahh. I waited and it worked out. Thanks
