Ajax is cool.

How not to use it!

|edit| This blog entry was written some time ago and my site no longer uses Ajax.
Just to note that JQuery is _the_ Ajax library to go for these days.

Heh, I think it's mainly out of genuiene curiousity that I do these things. The headaches, the frustration, the "I've got to get this to work or heaven help me!" late night tweak-a-thons.
Is it worth it in the end? Probably not. But then again, nothing I do usually is.

I must admit though I'm only in it for the effects! But more on that later...

So how does one approach this xmlhttp-requesting dohickey? I'd be the last person to tell you that! Oh and before you read on, I don't really have any clue on the subject at hand, please take it light-heartedly 'specially the old folks ...

Instead I present to you the idea of Javascript Libraries for AJAX. Now I won't try to justify my lacking in coding my own library(hey I never said I was a programmer) but these Libs are just absolutely brilliantastic™.

The two I've played around with, namely Prototype and JQuery, are great examples of Ajax libs/frameworks/whatever. They have their good points and bad points and most definitely their bugs!
Although both do have some sort of built in effects collection, what you're really looking for are (what I like to call 'em) the Interface Libs.

These type of libs(well actually scripts) are third-party built on the originals and usually boast the killer effects like drag-drop-n-dock objects and really cool page element animations. Rico for prototype and Interface Elements for JQuery.
Of course they offer more than that, but for a person like me, If I'm not using it... I don't really care much about it.

So now having your A-jazzy effects, go forth and have fun! Like I did! HERE!

Of course, you'll eventually pick up on the asynchronous page loading sooner or later. The miniblog bit on my site is actually pulled from a database! Sweet huh? See, I'm not a total failure!

Damn, well that's my 3rd day in a row I haven't slept.
