Has a big download button which, when clicked, brings up the second page featuring the price.

Are people scared of putting prices directly on things, nowadays?

FWIW : Seeing the "trick" makes me LESS interested in the product.
I was marginally interested, but the trick has put me off.

I'll stick with SpriteSometng on my iPad.

I have not used Aseprite yet. I follow several gfx/indie facebook groups and this one gets some positive mentions. I am more interested now since it got on steam. I have not found a replacement for graphics since Paint shop pro version 6 or so.
Aseprite sells for 15 euro here on steam. I might just wait for the end of the year for a sale and get it then. It is cheap enough to take a risk if it is not so good.

The rating is says is "very positive" of 80 reviews or so in the first week.

I have not drawn graphics for a long time. Maybe it exports to animated gif to. (Nice for facebook and such) Still need to read more of what it can do.

I'd be interested to see what it offers over Photoshop.

Any art tool worth its salt should include animated gif support!!

Its still open source (GPL licensed) which I think is super interesting. Once you've bought it, you can still modify the code etc. if you need to. But you don't get the source code from an official source unless you buy it! Clever!

I liked sprite something, but on my iPad Air 2 it just randomly closes!

Which is a shame

It still does that for you? It did it LOADS for me, back when (IIRC) iOS7 first appeared, but it seemed to get fixed pretty quick.
Email the author via the in-app thing. I've had a few decent back'n'forth's with the guy.
He's a person, not an automated response thing
