Socoder -> Off Topic -> Infinity not infinity

e-mail from BT - I can now get BT **INFINITY** broadband, and my estimated speed is ’’up to 20Mbps’’. **looks up the definition of ’’infinity’’**....

if the very name wasn't taking the piss enough already, I already get basic fibre broadband up to 17mb. So they want MORE fecking money for giving me the same bastard thing!!

Oh, and £60 "setup fee", while I'm about it!

I’m happy with the fibre optic network that Nynex installed in the early 90s.
And fuck BT...

I'm using BT Infinity and I recently got the "free" upgrade to 76mbps (from 52mbps).

At no time have I ever actually got 52mbps - even now. Just did a test - 45.84 Mb/s

Still that's about 45Mbs better than I got with SKY...

I have 40/40 since last year. They almost trippled the price a month compared to a few years ago for the cheapest service. But I am happy with the upload. Actually get the 4megabytes a second up and down. And I have wifi since last year also.

Things have improved a lot since I got my first broadband in 2000.

Did I mention that the "free" upgrade is going to cost £2.50 extra a month. Literally just this minute got an email about that price increase.

Yeah all the prices are going up in January. All this "free upgrade" stuff is just to shut everyone up.

I have infinity as well, and I'll be honest, I've never had one ounce of trouble with it... Which does me, as I have had nightmares with ISP's in the past, yeah, they are cheaper, but, when I have had BT in over the years, they've been the most solid.

My SKY router was much more stable than my BT one - mine goes off at least once a day for a moment or three, but other than that, no bother.

I'm still on ADSL2+, with 13/1 connection... My area is planned to have the NBN installed Q1 of next year and then it'll be using HFC, which should be better but it's not FTTH

I've got 70 meg Vrigin Media, works OK most of the time. Conneted via ethernet, fuck WiFi.

Ethernet is all well and good if you don't mind wires trailing all over the place, or can be arsed to install network sockets in whatever rooms you need them in.

In our house, the phone socket is in the kitchen window - the only room where, if it were up to me, I would NOT put a phone socket. It'd be a bitch to get ethernet around the house from there. Wifi is fine, mostly, except when I'm transferring stuff between PC/PC/NAS - that's where it gets a bit painful.

Phone socket? Guess your on FTTN or FTTC?

FTTC. And the cabinet is 2km away so lucky to get 17mb really.

Ah, your on FTTN

FTTN = Fibre to the Node
FTTC = Fibre to the Curb
FTTH = Fibre to the Home
