Sorry, it was £20... The seller did have loads of Windows 10 OEM's for sale when I was on there... But alas, looks like they've had a take down:-

"We had to remove this listing from the site and you're not required to complete the transaction. If you've already sent payment, the sale should process as normal and you don't have anything to worry about. If you have any questions about delivery, please check tracking or contact your seller. If you run into any trouble along the way eBay is here to help. Please visit the Resolution Centre to help resolve any problems you may encounter."

^In my Purchase History!

Lucky there wasnt I!

Its an option...

To cut a long story short...

I bought this laptop a couple of years ago now - it came with Windows 8.

When Windows 10 appeared, it nagged and nagged until I gave in and updated it - I had Windows 10 Pro. All good. Then the Creator's Update came along...

It will not install. In the end I tried the "reset Windows" option. Which did indeed reset it - to Windows 10 Home. The Creators update still didn't install. :/

This laptop didn't come with a Windows Licence Key. It isn't on a sticker on the bottom, nor is it under the battery. There simply isn't one. I know there are ways of finding your licence key and I've done that, but trying to use that key to then install Windows, says it's an invalid licence key.

So I have a feeling that all of my woes stem from using a version of Windows 10 that was upgraded from Windows 8. The only way forward now is to acquire a new licence key (which Microsoft want, and are not getting over £200 for).

And yeah... if Linux fully supported all Windows software I'd be installing Linux right now, because I'm at the end of my rope with Microsoft's crap.

Hadn't thought about that to be honest. We'll see how we go with the current reinstall.

It's at 18%

I repeat... IT IS AT 18%!! 21% NOW!!!! \o/

Bastard thing is still at 21%. Think I'll just leave it to do whatever it's doing overnight. Then smash it to bits.

If you upgraded during the free period, then you shouldn't need a key. if I remember correctly, when it asks for a key, you just skip and install anyway. Once it logs onto the internet, it will grab the proper key from Microsoft and validate your copy automatically.

Yeah I did. The installation didn't even ask for a key - it just activated itself. But it's Win10 Home now, not Pro as it was before. I dunno how that's happened.

I've had issues recently with my SSD completely disappearing from the system so if this is still stuck tomorrow morning I've got a 1TB HDD on standby, though several drive scans have found no errors. It's all very strange.

Ten hours later.... still 21%.

Think it's safe to say it's not working.

Nothing worse really!

I mean, once upon a time, you might of got some sort of error message, send a report in, that sort of setup... Now though, when something goes tits up, it either just sits there looping like a mental, or you just get a text box with something like "Erm, shit, you gonna have to see your system administrator, but I doubt they'll have a clue either mind" and thats it!

Technology... It amazes me every day!

Or "launch the Windows Troubleshooter which will actually tell you fuckall. You may as well ask the cat".

Has the Windows Troubleshooter ever, in its entire history, been able to diagnose (let alone fix) a fault on Windows?

Similarly "F1 for help" regularly just pops up a "Sorry, can't load that version of help. It's 2 months old, and Microsoft have decided to go in a completely different direction for Help files." requester.

When you have to make a webpage dedicated to you having fucked something up.. ... DON'T FUCK IT UP IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!

Well, looks like it all installed perfectly, first time, using the original HDD (which it turns out is 500GB, not 1TB).

But yeah.... frowning at my 250GB Samsung 840 Evo just now.... -_-

Wifey's laptop has Windows 8 on it and will routinely drop the router connection, mind you a wired not a wireless connection. Troubleshooter does indeed fix this for her every time.

My Win10 lappy often "forgets" that it can actually access my Wi-Fi and comes up with the "No internet access" crap. I have to go into Command Prompt to IPCONFIG RELEASE and RENEW to do this. Windows Troubleshooter can't ever find or fix this itself. Stupid POS. BTW My lappy NEVER had this problem with Win8, so it's definitely a Win10 update thats fucked itself up the arse.
