Socoder -> Web Development -> Good free webhosting

I'm after some really good free web-hosting, mainly to hold files and any JavaDoc stuff I want to upload. Currently I use Google Pages which is really good. It has lots of space, great online manager but oddly enough doesn't support directories. So I can't use it to host any JavaDoc stuff (I could, but I'd have to edit every JavaDoc file which is way too much hassle).

So I could use my GeoCities account, but GeoCities is shit. Bad manager, very small space, and although it doesn't delete itself there is a bandwidth limit.

So I'm after somewhere that supports directories, decent amount of space, and a big must is that it must not have a minimum bandwidth requirement. That's another reason why I love Google Pages.

Have you tried 789mb.com - ok, their control panel isn't sophisticated, but its ok...

I found sitesled quite good until they deleted my account for not having an index page.

They delete your account because of that?

*goes to check if mine is still there*

They haven't touched my account, but better safe than sorry; I just made one.

So 789.com and SiteSled don't have any policies on removing inactive members (except for the thing about no index page)?

Try that link. It's the place I check whenever I need to jump onto another free host.

Bare in mind, that what they won't mention is filesize limits (usually 500kb) and restricted php functionality like mail() and fopen() so you have to check up on those yourself.
Rarely do I see them allow you .htaccess but they might.

Most probably will ask you to do something for them like post regularly on their forums (avoid those if you can) or put up a ad or referral link.
Other things to look out for is that once you join one and give an email address, expect a lot of spam later. Most do not let you retrieve your data once they've terminate you from their service.

Other than that, it's more or less like normal webhosting but with more downtime - loads more.

Sitesled's ok, but occasionally has Hotlinking issues. If you're running Java stuff, I don't know if that might cause any issues, but it's something to watch out for.

I'd offer you some space on here, but I'm having issues with the FTP again, and am having to upload everything through the web-based sucky file manager. It won't let you overwrite files, and you have to keep delete+upload things.. Doesn't really help!
