Socoder -> Misc Gaming -> Favourite Amstrad CPC Games

Long long ago in the mists of time, I grew up surgically attatched to an Amstrad CPC!
I spent years with that wonderful little system, and loved every minute of it.
I perfected my cassette volume tweaking, and learned the basics of basic on that thing.

Some of my favourite games were Fast Food, Harvey Headbanger, Amsoft's 3D Grand Prix, and of course, Manic Miner!

I also had Lemmings on the CPC, on glorious 3" Floppy disk!

But there are TONS more games from the days.
What were some of yours?

Good evening everybody. I have a confession. I am an Amstraddict. I thought I could escape it's clutches when I sold my machine to fund my Amiga. I was wrong!

Even today, with the use of emulators, I can still enjoy the cream of the Amstrad crop from yesteryear.

My faves (in no particular order) were -

Sorcery+
Renegade
Gryzor
BoulderDash (plus Construction Kit) - in case you hadn;t realised where my name and avatar come from.
Impossible Mission (yeah, it's not as good as C64)
Uridium
Spindizzy
Knight Lore
Cybernoid
Manic Miner
Druid
and too many more to mention...

On the ones I remember the most:

* Roland games
- On the Ropes
- In the Caves
* Oh Mummy
* Batty (my Dad loved this game! )
* Robocop
* Airwolf
* Airwolf 2 - mainly because it took forever to load!
* Dizzy Games!!!!
* Knight Lore
* Batman (both the isometric one and the caped crusader)

We had draws of cassettes!

When we were kids we didnt get much spending money, something like 20p a week... so when I had 3.00 I use to rush out to get a 2.99 game!

"Split Personalities" Awesomr game

I did an Xmas themed version for this very site a few years back

I even got permission for the original author to ue the name "Split Personalities" BITD. I never did though.

How on earth can anyone like "Airwolf" or "Airwolf 2" on the CPC? They are two of the shittest games ever! Airwolf can't even count - load it into an emulator and watch the time countdown!

I never beat level 2 of "Roland In The Caves" - that bloody pteradactyl/pteranodon!

I had well over 400 CPC games (all originals) BITD (every single one that has been mentioned above had a place in my collection); I had a friend (well, his Dad) that worked for MicroDealer International and I could get any game for between 25p and 50p (for double cassettes/compilations). Bargain!!! Although "Airwolf 2" wasn't even worth 25p!

I had no friends with Amstrads. Nobody at school even knew WTF an Amstrad was.
Then, one day, a young girl got an Amstrad CPC 464, and we became "Game Swap" buddies

... Too focused on playing games.. *sigh* Missed opportunities!

Jayenkai I had no friends with Amstrads. Nobody at school even knew WTF an Amstrad was.

There were a few of us at school with Amstrad CPC 464, one of the teachers had a CPC 664, the typing tuition room was packed with PCW 1512. Most kids there had Spectrums, a smaller group had C64s, about 2 or 3 kids had BBCs and I knew of one that had an Acorn Electron.

The I.T room had shitloads of BBC Model-B which were replaced with Acorn Archemedes around 1987/1988. If only I had grabbed a few of those BBCs when they stacked them in a portacabin outside the school for a few weeks before someone came and took the whole lot, didn't think they would be worth anything back then.

Around 1987/1988 a lot of us got Amigas and STs, the ST owners would boast that the ST is superior to the Amiga, whereas us Amiga users didn't really see what all the fuss was about. There are abviously many differences between the two machines, the Amiga owners would recognise that both were very capable machines in their own right, however, the ST owners would never admit that the Amiga had any credibility. I was in the Amiga clan, we were a very laid-back bunch compared to the ST clan because basically we didn't give a shit who said what.

It was actually six/seven years ago I did THIS

Wow! Time flies!

The original download link is now borked though

But it's now available on Dropbox - www.dropbox.com/s/g36qec6genf90vm/Puzzled%20Xmas.zip?dl=0

IIRC the above (Dropbox) version includes additional levels and bug-fixes etc.

That's quite a good polished game.
