Apple event

I watched the apple event. My ipad is 2+ years old and it has been showing signs of not being able to handle certain tasks. The budged ipad now has a new soc. The a12. The price has stayed the same.

The new ipad air did increase in price with a hundred dollars. It has the brand new A14 cpu on 5nm. The first cpu on this scale. I think I do not want to pay that much for a tablet.

I was too late for the watches. They can now measure the oxygen in your blood it seems.

Today new ios and ipad os updates would be released I think they mentioned.

Btw. I tried to run the scripted amiga emulater on my Iphonese2020 and it is actually faster than my msi laptop doing this. Though apple webbrowsers can not render the sound.

Sure they can! You need a registered click to enable sound in the browser, though, and finding a way to do that on a html canvas is a right pain in the arse!

I'm actually thinking of getting a macbook air! But the prices are through the roof when you add memory(16) and storage(1tb)

I was looking to see if I could replace my old ipads with a new ipad and so the new macbooks can run every ios and ipados app it seems.

The event tonight was full of x times faster quotes "Faster than 98% of all laptops in the same segment"

Not sure if I could find my way in the mac ecosystem.

Oh, I forgot that was today..
Dang. Might have to track down a rewatch method.

A couple of years ago, I was almost sure I'd be picking up a MacBook. But last year I started playing around with all kinds of alternatives.
Although I haven't used it as a daily thing, I do still have my old MacMini running Windows, and do occasionally blip over to it, remote-desktop style from my iPad.
A bit of file shuffling, some occasional quick tweaks to the server, things that don't warrant grabbing out the full laptop, and that I know I can handle with just the touchscreen. (Or occasionally that Texet keyboard that I have.)

It's extremely comfortable using Windows like that. Not as a daily OS on my iPad, but something that's there should I need it.

That was what inevitably put a stop to my thoughts of getting a MacBook. Plus the fact that it's Windows, not "bloody MacOS!"

If you have a spare Desktop lying around, maybe look into that. I needed to have Win10Pro running, to use Microsoft's own Remote Desktop, though there are plenty of alternatives out there.

.. it's certainly a cheaper alternative, than getting a MacBook, and gives you the access to "power" functions that you're probably looking for.

The main issue, IMO, is that audio apps (music tools!) are severely hampered by the Remote Desktop delay.

The new ipads have been mostly out of stock ever since they were released. I just checked and nothing. I was glad I was able to get a Ryzen laptop that had good reviews. The thing makes no fan noise what so ever. Not even when rendering a 2.5 gigabyte video.

The new macbooks will probably be difficult to get for the next months also. They are in stock right now though.

Are there any benchmarks out yet comparing the new CPU with the Intel ones?

I wonder how much software is going to be "recompiled" for it too...

I expect most devs would want to recompile. Xcode apparently compiles multi-processor compiles, from what I read at the start of all this, though god only knows how well/easy that'll be happening.

Benchmarks, none that I know if, so far. But I'd suggest keeping an eye on Geekbench, where I reckon it'll probably show up fairly quickly, once enough people are trying it out.

The 17th this month the macbooks should be in the hands of people who ordered them first. Maybe performance benchmarks wil be out sooner.

The gpu is not that powerful. I think it was at around the 1050ti nvidia performance. 2tflops. Still not bad.

I bought the new Imac 27" about two months ago. Really glad I did as it seems as though they'll be removing user upgradable memory when the new Apple Silicon imacs come to be.

The ipad and iphone apps news is not that good. I'm not sure if Gadget and other of my favourite apps will work. How about all that music instrument apps thing? They seem to not have spend that much time on that it looks like.

Keep in mind that this is the first time this has been done. I expect more devs will realise that code-once is easier, wnd will lazily make just iOS apps, but more compatible ones, in future

To be honest, anyone making iOS apps that don't scale to different resolutions/ratios, by now, are probably not worth the hassle!!

Pro : Might be able to get my iDev back up and running again.
Pro : Laptop won't make that horrific clicking sound when you pick it up, because the close-right hand corner is starting to come apart (even though I've tightened all the screws)
Pro : The left hand ridge of the laptop won't pinch me, where the Ethernet adaptor is, because the left hand side of the case is also starting to split.
Pro : God knows how much I hate this laptop screen, where you need to tilt it over and over again to get a vaguely visible view, because (for reasons I still haven't figured out) Laptop designers seem to think that left/right viewing angle is more important that up/down viewing angle, even though EVERYBODY looks directly at the screen, but also everybody tilts the laptop up and down a bit..

Con : No Numpad

If you order one now you should have it before christmas. The regular new ipad 2020 has been out of stock for like forever now. Seems like every popular hardware is hard to get right now and might be for months to come.

If I order one now, I could have it by tomorrow. Amazon have a payment plan, so I can split the cost over 5 months.

... Oh, shit..

There was news that there is a macbook pro to appear with even a faster apple silicon processor. It might kick the sn*t out of everything AMD and Intel has. Though it probably costs an arm and a leg extra.

Yeah ,the cost per millisecond bonus issue isn't really a ting for most home consumers..... i ..i DUNNO MAN, IS THIS REALLY A MARKET FOR ME AND MY WIN 7 OC? PROBABLY NOT. I;'m also drunk. as a skunmkj oh gawd...
