Its been quite a while since i have posted anything on these fine forums, but i return with a question. Does anyone know of any midi to mp3 converters that are absolutely free? I have been searching google for a while now and everything is shareware that i will have to pay for in a month. Any suggestions?

Hello!!

Your best bet is to do it manually.
Open up Audacity/Cooledit/Whatever, set your computer's audio recording to Stereo Mix, and then record on recorder, and play the midi.
Wait, done..

Alternatively, if you use ModPlug Tracker, that can (vaguely!) import midi files, so long as you've a decent Soundfont in the modplug directory.. You can then use it's "Export as wav" to export that, and then convert it to MP3.
Not the best sound in the world, but if you're only exporting it (and not saving as a mod) you can use all kinds of VST effects in ModPlug, to create all manner of interesting sounds..
Maybe worth a try..?

Or, of course, you could post said midi here, and let everyone play around until we got a decent result

Along a similar topic, I'd like to convert some WMAs into MP3s. WMAs crash my MP3 player.

Unfortunately, since WMA's are a compressed format, any transition to another compressed format would result in a transcode, which means a dramatic loss in quality, no matter what bitrate you're converting to/from, unless if it was a lossless WMA.

As i said, WMAs crash my MP3 player so I'd rather have lower quality then that.

MagicMan couldnt you just use audacity?
Can I? I don't know, that's why I asked.

If possible I'd also prefer more of a black box type converter (i.e. wma goes in, mp3 comes out) rather than recording a new mp3 whilst playing my wma.

Audacity doesn't import WMAs anyway. Try using MediaCoder instead, it can convert lots of different formats and it's under the GNU license. I think it's https://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/ or just type mediacoder into your firefox url bar if you use firefox.

Stealth, if you're going to use that, at least type in something that gives decent results..

This, or this. Haven't tried either, but they both do batch stuff.

The first result for me is this:

www.wma-mp3.org/

I was mostly being a smart ass though, because there are tons of free converters online if you just google it.
