Eeeee Cobra... Theres a name from the past... I bought it, made one little game, but it was a bit too Pascally for my liking. Shame it died though, but still got more life then IBasic thats for sure!!!

I bought Cobra too. I bought BlitzMax at the same time and compared them to each other and to PlayBASIC, by doing three versions of the same game - a WIP of Guru Logic Champs, that I later completed in GLBasic. Cobra did not do as well as either of the other two surprisingly, so was instantly dropped. It looked great, when I saw it for the first time at the Coders Workshop in Doncaster and it was nice to meet and talk to the dev, but in the end it just lacked oomph.

By the time I finally go around to moving on from B3D, Cobra was already a thing of the past.

Yeah, well, again, GrahamK could only try and pull most punters from Blitzland, I didnt really see any marketing elsewhere, and Idigicon wouldnt do anything because I think Cobra was initially developed for them due to the spat with BRL over B3D, which, I think that turned sour as well, but, it wasnt put over that way in the end, hence why IBasic came along, and that went for a burton.

Thats how I recall it.

My quote was in my comparison tests with the same game and my use of Cobra, not about being dropped as a commercial product. I stopped using it.

But yeah, marketing probably wasn't Graham's strongest point - communication wasn't exactly a high priority either, although tbf he was working full time in a real job and on Cobra, so time was limited.

I bought it but didn't get much use out of it. I found it a bit buggy. Compared to BMax the Pascal language was limited (no OOP) as was Windows only support. The .EXE generated was a bit hefty too.
