Platdude Blitz

*sigh* It's been so long!

BlitzCoder Showcase
BC doesn't keep "When a showcase was first created" dates, but if you take a look at the date of the first comment (first = last in list! Comments went bottom to top in them days!) You'll see that I first posted Platdude Blitz Early May 2002.

*!*

That's 5 years ago!

So, I'm officially declaring Platdude Blitz 5 years old.
I think, to celebrate, my task over the course of May will be to create a new Platdude game. One that plays really well, and has a bunch of decent levels.
Platdude Spheres seemed like a really interesting spin on things, so I might go back to that version again. See what I can do. Otherwise, maybe a PC version of the DS game.

Guess we'll have to wait and see what happens!

|edit| Aw, man, it kinda sucks nowadays!
Terrible collision detection!!
Nicked Music from Aminet!!
Graphics from any game at hand!!
Sounds from other games!!!
.. No matter... Download Linkage |edit|

I think I'll start again with Platdude Spheres.
Having just played a quick game of it, it's on this page, the whole "Every Platformer, but together" thing is once again wedged into my mind.
But. .
It's too big, I think.
Or something..
If I make it so that the Mario style level is around about the right tile size, then I think the game could be a little more fun to play.
Also, I wonder if making the gameplay JNKPlat style (Block-at-a-time esque) would help/hinder the game.
I might have to create a bunch of little demo engines, and see which one feels best.

Make a Mario-ish one that has half a story and a level editor thrown into the mix and you could get get something worth selling.

I loved it and it's a great idea.

1. Half a Story = Not a chance, I generally suck at storylines, and very rarely (if ever) bother putting them in.
2. JNKPlat style would be the DS (Still Block at a time, but animated) style. Not the classic "Jumpy" style.
3. I wouldn't sell my games. If I can make them for nothing, they should be playable for nothing, too.

Wow, somebody who actually agrees with me!

I was just saying people might be willing to pay money for it if it's good, that's all.

I would sell my games if they were good enough to ask money for.

The only problem nowadays is that generally one person can't really make a game of that kind of quality on their own.
