Win7 should be out soon, and.. with any luck, we'll never hear about Vista again!
It'll be like Windows Me, only a bit more popular

I must say I cant complain about windows 7 so far, unless they manage to mess up on the final version. No crashes yet!

HotShot showed me a screenshot of the taskmanager of his PC whilst he was saying it was slow. At the time the anti-virus was running at over 60%.

Lots of modern games load in data on the fly as it needs it from disk, so I also said any programs performing disk IO will also slow down his game and may cause freezing. He was running uTorrent.

Ensure AVG isn't going to do a virus scan whilst your playing and don't run any apps in the background that do any disk IO. If you haven't already I'd also recommend updating to your latest gfx drivers.

Even if I'm way off with my suggestions, it's still not Vista (or XP if you were running XP) at fault. It's everything else on top.

XP RULES!

I'll jump off a cliff before I switch back to XP.

I regularly find myself sighing at something explorer's done without my asking.
That's just not good!!

I hope you did not pay for Vista.

I also hope that every PC that runs Vista can also run XP.

If not, I'm out of luck.

[tangental]Have any of you downloaded Vista SP2 yet? It's supposed to be a bit faster, and they claim an extra half hour of battery life as well...

It was mainly to improve IO performance rather then performance in general. I've tried it and disk IO is faster, but it's not a huge difference.

One of the benefits of the SP2 is that it automatically polls for the wireless card and connects it.

SP1 you had to do that yourself.

Vista SP2 solved all the problems I was having. Give it a try. Available for download on the Microsoft web site.

It occurs to me that I am yet to install SP1, because I don't trust this laptop not to permanently kill itself while installing... perhaps it would be less likely to do this if I installed the update...
