yet another reason to hate Apple! -- alt + drag ONE folder = merge (just like the default action for every useful OS ever. alt + drag TWO folders = delete and overwrite, without placing in trash, thats right, I just lost all of my work because Apple don’t know how to not delete my files.

I've been using a Mac for over two years, and still find Finder baffling at times. It really doesn't get any easier. Sorry for your loss

The Mac is a very weird beast.

I'm not familiar with any of those behaviours.
In the very rare case I want to put everything from folder A into folder B and get rid of folder A; I just select all from inside folder A, drag to folder B, then delete folder A.

I just got an update from Microsoft for mouse and keyboard control. The default setting for "middle click" has now changed from "middle click" to "flip". ("Flip", as it turns out, means switch to another open window)
So the default is now not the default. Yay, Microsoft.
