My first thought was "Oh, great. Now Disney can ruin Star Wars." My second thought was "They'd have to try pretty hard to screw it up more than Lucas himself has." So, I'm ambivalent. I think the worst thing that could happen is Disney puts the movies into the "Disney Vault" so they're only available to buy at inflated prices for short periods every five years. -=-=- All the raw, animal magnetism of a rutabaga.

I was happy to read about that. He ran the Company from out of pocket expenses and now has made a fortune from the franchise. What he has done is a good example of good business practices in Film. The Union and other so called 'Whores' of the business are ruining it. -=-=- DNA |

I read that Disney plans to release Star Wars 7 (!) in 2014. If that's the case, I can only pray to the filmgods that they hire Cameron or Jackson as a director, and get Hamill, Ford and Fisher into those blue suits so they'll look like they're 35 again!

TBH I am looking forward to seeing what will come from this. As long as Lucas doesn't get to direct any of the next trilogy and is solely involved in his ideas, then things could be good. And who won't collect the next set of Star Wars plushies from the Disney store?   2015 for the next movie isn't a great deal of time though - inspires feelings of dreaded CGI everything. |

Actually, I'd want for this movie to at least be partially CGI (like Avatar). Better CGI than hire some actors and get them to look like younger versions of the original ones (granted, who actually acts the part doesn't matter that much - they proved with Avatar that they can make 'em look like anything, so what's important is that the final outcome look like 35-ish year old versions of the original actors and that they have the right voices). My dream-pick would be Daniel Craig to do the motion capture for Harrison Ford, unless Ford agreed to do it himself. Put the bottle down, Afr0! Geeze, not even Disney would dare to pure-CGI the whole thing! If I'm right, Disney also picked up ILM in the deal, so model making would be a very simple & cheap thing for them to do. CGI / Matt scenery and backgrounds would be the biggest task for them, but again, easy to do. Hell, if Red Dwarf could do it on a shoestring (especially in the Specials) then, I'm sure Disney will do a fine job. -=-=- ''Load, Next List!''

CGI in itself isn't a problem - the timescale is: remember, they haven't even got a working story yet, by all accounts - just some fuzzy ideas. Then there's storyboards and scripting to do first. Filming and CGI probably starts at roughly the same time, with post effects added once those are done - which doesn't leave a great deal of time as it's nearly 2013 already. Doing GOOD CGI AND GOOD animation takes a long time. I can spot poor CGI and poor animation a mile off - and this often ruins films for me. I'd rather good miniature models as in the original Star Wars than the CGI from Episodes 1-3. Just look at Slave 1 in the prequels compared to Eps V and VI. The model looks much better. But yeah, if anyone can make a good SW movie then Disney is the best bet - they've got decades of film and CGI knowledge (plus the whole of ILM to help). |

 Geeze, not even Disney would dare to pure-CGI the whole thing! To be honest, they wouldn't have to. They've gotten the technology to the point now where they could put CGI versions of Luke, Leia and Han into real live footage and make them look like they were there in the first place.
