Socoder -> What Have You Done

Wed, 27 Feb 2013, 04:05
Jayenkai
I seem to have given up doing these weekly, so it might as well be a Monthly thing, instead...
(he says.. I'm just really fucking forgetful, that's all!)

Ups

What did you get done this month?
  • C3ntipong
  • Platdude Goes Golfing
  • The Heist
  • Blockman Gets Hungry
  • SpikeDislike
  • Various minor insignificant Socoder bug fixes.. Not that anyone noticed.

Did everything turn out as planned?
Sure did! I've had a really productive month!
I mean, usually AGameAWeek is marginally productive, but.. blimey!! I've gone overboard, this month!
AND it's February, the shortest month of the year.
Goodness knows what next month will bring! (hopefully not a tumour, like last March!)

    Downs

    What didn't you get done?
  • Umm.. nothing!!

    Why not?
I really have had a very good month!!

    Now

What are you working on right now?
    Arcade Slots, the 2013 edition!
I've attempted Arcade Slots iOS about 3 or 4 times, but it never really seemed to get further than a simple starting point.
    This time will be different!
This time, I'm working in a language that I'm comfortable with!

    How's that going?
Not too bad. I've already got 2 games working, and am now trying to decide what Game#3 should be.
I also need to rejig the menu system to allow for all the different games that are going to be bundled into it.
    hmmm...
    I HATE doing menus!!

    Next

What's the plan for the week ahead?
  • Lots and Lots of Arcade Slots!

    Ups

What did you get done this month?
  • I've been doing a lot of JavaScript programming, especially with the canvas. It feels nice to be doing some proper game programming again, and it's certainly been a long time. JavaScript is one of my favourite languages (though I occasionally hate it completely), so it's really nice to be able to do so many things with it.

Did everything turn out as planned?
There were a few projects that I didn't actually complete, but that was effectively part of the "plan" anyway.

    Downs

    What didn't you get done?
  • Left some coursework incomplete.

    Why not?
I let myself procrastinate, because the deadline is too freakin' far away. Now I'll be behind.

    Now

What are you working on right now?
Finishing schoolwork for high school so I can make progress on that other coursework later today.

    How's that going?
    I found myself on SoCoder.

    Next

What's the plan for the week ahead?
  • Finish coursework
  • Get some programming in, probably in JavaScript or python.
  • Do some other minor work for the sake of project completion.

    Ups

What did you get done this month?
  • Be more active on socoder.net
  • Installed Blitz3D
  • Fixed my bathroom!
  • May have sort of indirectly accidentally proposed to the girlfriend, sort of!

Did everything turn out as planned?
    so far so good!

    Downs

    What didn't you get done?
  • Any game programming
  • The washing up/ironing

    Why not?
    Distracted by playing games

    Now

What are you working on right now?
  • Convincing the other half that I need a DSLR
  • Finding motivation for gamedev

    How's that going?
DSLR not so good but motivation is on the rise

    Next

What's the plan for the week ahead?
  • At least start the tile map engine (for the 12th time!)
  • spend more time coding

This is how it went, I emailed this my best mate this morning.

My girlfriend of 8.5 years is Charlie.

charlie was going to British heart foundation in town to collect my old telly I donated, she noticed one of her clients on the till so she went back to the office and phoned in and to keep her anonymity she said she was Mrs Moore, she was telling me just as she was going to footy last night, so I text her "for future reference how was it being Mrs Moore?" she replied as always with "I dont want to be your mum" my response was "I knew you would avoid it"

anyway this morning i changed the rom on my phone to a new one (4.2.2) so the sound is better in my car, it was being silly so I emailed charlie at work saying phone off line and went for a brew while i sorted gmail 2 factor auth.

got back to my desk with an email from her saying.

    "oh ok Mr M

    love Mrs M x"

Not an actual proposal but I think she's game!

    Ups

What did you get done this month?
  • Published my book in various formats at Lulu
  • Started working together with Darren on a Technical Design Document for Project Dollhouse
  • Rendered head in place in custom Vitaboy renderer

Did everything turn out as planned?

No. I received the proof copy of the English paperback edition today, and there were a couple of things that needed fixing. So I ordered a new proof copy, everything should be fine now.
I also had to create a new revision of the English ebook because there was an issue with the index that didn't meet the standard for publishing to the iBook store and Barnes and Nobles.
I'm also learning that the being an author isn't a profitable career choice. So far I've earned a revenue of $14.42 USD. Hopefully I'll get more sales when I get the ebooks published beyond Lulu, and hopefully I will also get my paperback published in retail!!

    Downs

    What didn't you get done?
  • Fixed Vitaboy skeleton rendering.

    Why not?
  • Because maths.

    Now

What are you working on right now?
Getting the skeleton set up the RIGHT WAY in Vitaboy.

    How's that going?
    Slow.

    Next

What's the plan for the week ahead?
    Working on skeleton.

Edit: FFS Jay, why isn't it possible to interpret a link as an image?! FIX!

    |edit| Jay : Your image url doesn't end in an image format extension. Its a security precaution. |edit|

    Ups

What did you get done this month?
  • Erm, managed to bang out shed fulls of Vala code!

Did everything turn out as planned?
Certainly did, managed to code the Linux version of the BambooBasic editor right up to the point where all I have to implement is the "Build" and "Build and Run" bit!

    Downs

    What didn't you get done?
  • Write more BambooBasic samples... I really really need to create a decent amount for people to use.

    Why not?
Working on the editor, life, work, and erm, golf and toeball!

    Now

What are you working on right now?
"Build" and "Build and Run" sections.

    How's that going?
It hasnt, I havent started them yet!

    Next

What's the plan for the week ahead?
  • Finish editor
  • Test the bugger
  • Test the bugger some more, then, have a go at getting it on the Raspberry Pi... The backend of BambooBasic runs as sweet as a nut on there, so, would be lovely to have the editor on there too!

What's the plan for the month ahead?
  • After them above, have a good old organize of it, then, move on to implementing a Bamboo->Javascript backend, currently, the backend produces PHP, but, the aim itself is to use the same BambooBasic syntax as that, to belch out .js files, which, I'll then look to adding such things as, say, HTML5 canvas drawing, which will be fun!

    Ups

What did you get done this month?
  • AquaVenture (pc, Wiz, Caanoo and Pandora)
  • Frootopia (Pandora only)
  • 2 paid commisioned medical apps for the Pandora
  • Finished X-Com:Enemy Unknown on XBox and the original game (both on the same day)

Did everything turn out as planned?
Better - I got them all finished!

    Downs

    What didn't you get done?
  • The ending to AquaVenture is lamer than I wanted.
  • Some bugs in Frootopia let the game down a bit.
  • X-COM on XBox was shorter than I expected, but I loved every second of it. Original X-COM was longer than I remembered, but loved every second of it.

    Why not?
No time for thorough testing of Frootopia due to playing X-COM. I can't code 24/7 - I have tried!

    Now

What are you working on right now?
A scrabble word game type thing.

    How's that going?
    Better than expected.

    Next

What's the plan for the week ahead?
  • watch the Walking Dead - not had time to catch the latest episode
  • Dunno
  • There's always something else...
