Parts of the Big List
  • Some sort of Manic Miner retro platformer thing.
  • All New Stringy Things (since I got the WordList working)
  • Pladude's iCade Collection
  • Key Bo & Ard Makes Three
  • Munky's Blocks

Instead of coding, I'm finding myself just sort of sitting here, considering which project can be done the quickest, and not actually doing anything at all.
    hmm.. that's not good.

I'd put thos in the following order on your doto list.

    1. Manic PlatDude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111
    2. Key Bo Ard
    3. Munky's Blocks
    4. Platdude's iCade Collection
    5. Stringy Things

but only cos manic platdude is such a good idea and I dont like word games much.

I spent about an hour writing a script to nicely recolour all those greyscale sprites that I drew the other day.
I now have 24 spritesheets.. Hmm...

    Oh well, carry on!!

I think I'm tackling the new retro collection, but still aren't sure.

Still haven't decided on which project to tackle, but spent a good few hours doodling some multipurpose floor tiles that may or may not come in handy if I decide to make some sort of game that requires floor tiles..

Don't go ahead with a project just cos it's quick to finish!
Do it cos it's a project you want to do! Same with graphics - don't make them blocky cos it takes less time!
Don't avoid network code because it's "difficult"! If you can get a wordlist working, you can support loadbalancing and thousands of players.
Maybe you should go see a shrink, to change your perspective on things??

    Hello, my name's Jayenkai.
I am the creator of AGameAWeek, and every week I release a brand new game!
Last year I had a brain tumour, and spent most of the year thinking instead of coding.
I expected most of those ideas would result in huge epic mega oversized super-projects.

    I've done them all.

    It took me 7 weeks.

Yeah, just not in HTML5, although I might add a separate pre-coloured tilesheet for that.

Amazing the number of things in just that first level!

    Still need to add..
    1) "Death from Above" (not all spikes are the same!!)
    2) Travelator
then I think the engine is at least complete enough to play "Central Cavern"

.. not bad, though, for a couple of day's work, and nice and playable, too!

Haven't added in a travelator, yet, and he jumps a teensy bit too high, but otherwise it's a luvly engine!

    *Picks up jaw from floor*

I noticed the player can drop from a huge height without dieing, not being able to drop too far adds challenge to the game, *suggests that as a "Hard/Medium/Easy" setting feature" *

I think this is part of the problem, rather than the solution.

Good, good. So why'd you return to being, admittedly, lazy?

Death falling.. Fucknuts, I'd actually forgotten about that!! Yikes!!
Al these years of having Platdude not do that has made me forget about such a classic mechanic!
    Well spotted.

As for your comments, Afr0, if you think this is being lazy, then I offer you the following challenge.
You have until April 30th to create, from scratch, a complete platform game.
All art, all levels, all sound, all music, everything.
    100% the complete thing.
And I've given you over a month, not just a week.
If you think the amount of work I've achieved in the space of just a few days is lazy, then, quite frankly, you can kiss my fucking arse!!

    Touche!

Helen's looking forward to this game Jay. You have a couple of willing beta testers here! No doubt everyone on the site will also volunteer!

By all means, give yourself longer than 7 days for this one!

    Jayenkai Being lazy kicks ass!!

Jayenkai Yeah, that's pure laziness on my part
Part of the issue is that you need to edit a completely different file to change the titlebar, now. It's no longer a quick "AppTitle = " command.

.. too lazy to edit the other file!

Jayenkai Google is a lazy coder's best friend! If I didn't have that, I might actually have to RTFM for a change.

If AGameAWeek is as labour intensive as you claim, then I'm just having a hard time understanding your priorities.
Though ironically I suppose we're in the same business, seeing as I'm also remaking a game from my "youth".
With slight modifications, obviously, I really doubt it'll end up being exactly like the original!
