Socoder -> On Topic -> Can the monkey Raspberry Pi?

Now that we know monkey can swing in the trees with OUYA, can it blow raspberries with the Pi?.

Just need to know before I throw any coins in BRL's slot.

There isn't a specific Pi target, and I'm not sure of how good it is doing Linux stuff.
I can't imagine it'd have a very good framerate, either, even if you did manage to get it running.
Dunno, though.
..
Spinal?!

Not that I know of. I think you can get monkey to spit out c++ source, maybe you can take it from there, can't imagine compiling on the Pi would be very fast though.

Or you could try MonkeyMax, which spits the Monkey code out as BlitzMax code, then you can compile in BlitzMax for Linux.

not sure if that counts...?

I'd worry more about the speed of the Pi keeping up, than anything. Exactly how competent is it, anyway!?

QB64 doesn't work on Raspian either, and it's definitely not in the repository list, it apparently won't run on the ARM processor but they are working on it. I might still get monkey though, I like the idea of many platforms such as Android, iOS and flash etc..., it might come in handy for doing just-for-fun games in the browser so that I can spam them on facebook.

Blitz3D is getting a bit old-hat now.

Python and Scratch run proper donkey slow on Raspberry Pi, but I did once find and run a game on it that seemed to be running directly on the hardware and it seemed pretty damn quick, it restarted the maching and then booted into the terminal. I can't remember the name of the game now, but I'm pretty sure it's still on my SD Card because I don't remember removing it. I do remember it as being inside a spaceship of some kind where you had to shoot and avoid stuff.

If I decide to get monkey I will try it on the Raspberry Pi and then report the result here.

GLBasic does Pi rather nicely by all accounts.

GLBASIC run well on PI? Nice!!!

It is worth getting Raspberry Pi just for that because Python have been horrible when come running it. Error after Errors!

Depends what you want the Pi for really, but it's not going to break the bank. - As you can compile for Pi with the demo of GLBasic you'll soon see whether the end results are worth it or not.

It is inevitable though, due to its huge popularity, the Raspberry Pi will probably one day become a target platform.
