Not sure if Irfanview will retain the transparency, but it's probably worth a shot. I've found it's handy for a LOT of stuff...

try grabbing an older version of photoshop? i use cs2 at work and home, should be cheap on ebay I'd hope.

actually, isn't CS2 the one they give away free? lemme find that link... https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs2-product-downloads.html ...but now it bounces you to a "sign in with your Adobe account" screen, so I dunno if you can get back there or not -=-=- All the raw, animal magnetism of a rutabaga.
