Getting some more gamedev on this weekend for Global Game Jam, should be fun, tough, but fun!

Sorry, I'm knee deep in AGameAWeek mode!

Welll, that was probably my worst game I've made for a game jam, but still, a "game" it is, presenting Waifu Clicker 1.0 for Gameboy! -_-

So, yeah, first time in a long while I've really struggled during a game jam, to the point where I considered leaving after 8 hours into it.

It was down to a few things really, dumb code bugs that had me stumped for hours into the night, not getting decent sleep and as a result, not coding to my fullest ability.

If I hadn't chosen to hobble myself with the gameboy, I'd probably have been fine with it but C is a cruel mistress during game jams when things go wrong, they went badly wrong.

I tried to keep my source code reasonably standardized, there could have been more comments but it was tough to keep things organized.

Having said that, I'm glad that, despite all these setbacks and general exhaustion, that my png to gameboy encoder worked reasonably well, that allowed me to get some graphics on the screen with relative ease, but it could have worked a lot nicer.

Sadly, my tool for music generation fell over at it's first test which was particularly annoying as I had hoped to put some music in there this time.

It's clearly an unfinished clicker game, I think that's what bothers me the most about it. I knew there was going to be little to no gameplay when I decided okay, let's do this then.

During the final hours I submitted an early build to the GGJ website as I had a feeling I wouldn't get around to adding the in-game shop and other features. I was right to do this part at least as there were some other issues which came about that killed the game in one way or another.

TLDR; Part of me is sad that I didn't achieve what I set out to do, part of me is okay with it and wants to finish it off this month.

I think I'll use Unity for the next game jam!

Not every attempt flows smoothly. Doing AGameAWeek has WAY too many examples of that!!
Sometimes a great idea can churn to a halt, whilst other times a ludicrously overcomplicated idea seems to come together in an amazingly short amount of time!

Years of doing this, and I'm still not any better at judging which is which.

It's good that you did at least release it, though. That's one of the first hurdles, not giving up midway.

Thanks Jay, yeah, I figure I'd had a pretty good run of late with Game Jams, the next one shall be better!

It was a good experience still, found out how moody I get when coding on low sleep though! That was scary
