Because if everyone knew the protocol then it wouldn't be very effective. I can't explain.

JNK1 : Socoder exists for the purpose of information, therefore space on the site will be jam-packed, and not used for stupid oversized images that have no real purpose other than making things look a little prettier.
JNK2 : Socoder must exist without advertising, because adverts are annoying, and take up space that can be better used throwing more info at the user.
JNK3 : Socoder must never exist as the front for a war against another website. Socoder is meant to be a happy site, not an Anti-Devcrunch site.
JNK4 : Socoder is a member based website. As such, it's admins must not keep things from it's users. If an argument exists between it's admin staff, it will be carried out in full view of the other members, so that if a member of Admin is relieved of their Admin status, the other Forum members know why that happened.
JNK5 : Socoder must be active as much as is humanly possible, and for as long as is logically capable. It will not suddenly close down one day without prior warning. If the site MUST close, then the right thing to do would be to TELL THE OTHER MODERATORS SO THEY CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT...
JNK6 : Socoder must not be sold to some stupid god-awful company, hell bent on killing off forums.
JNK7 : Socoder must not lose it's forum. That's just fucking dumb, and any Admin staff who believe a popular coding website can exist without a Forum are as stupid as they come.
JNK8 : Socoder must never ask members to plaster it's url about all over the net. Spamming is absolutely forbidden.
JNK9 : Socoder must allow it's members to post links to other forums that may or may not be of interest to it's members, whether it be in direct competition with the site, or otherwise. It's only fair.
JNK10 : Socoder must not require members to put links to the site either on the title screens of their games, or on splash screen. Even if they're hosted by the site.
JNK11 : Socoder is a peaceful site. People who come only to argue with other members will be rejected.
JNK12 : Socoder is not Jayenkai's website. It exists for the community. All suggestions for new features, or notices of bugs will be noted down and worked on. Unless they're silly, like asking for a web-based OS or something.
JNK13 : Socoder is a place of many smilies. So long as all the smilies aren't the same stupid yellow circles.
JNK14 : Socoder must always allow it's members to discuss anything they like. So long as it's within the realms of common decency, and doesn't decend into Piracy Anarchy.
JNK15 : Socoder is an independent site, and therefore must allow for things that "Commercial" sites do not. Like emulation, and homebrew and things of that nature. (But again, not Piracy!)
JNK16 : Socoder members must not use Socoder as their own private PA posting site. If you're going to tell us about your latest game, use "language", not PA crap.
JNK17 : Socoder must never have any links on the site that look like they should do something relevant, but instead end up sending you to a search result.
JNK18 : Socoder should always have a Wednesday Workshop, even if nobody enters. Because the Wednesday Workshop is what Jay became a moderator at CW for, and it's the reason this site was built in the first place.
JNK19 : Socoder should be secure. Jay must ensure that every piece of code is as closed off as it can be, and that all SQL requests cannot be contaminated.
JNK20 : Socoder must be a community site. The future of every member on the site will be decided by every other member of the site. Banning will be a joint decision.

JNK66 : All jedi are to be regarded enemies of the republic and are to be eliminated on sight. Socoders are to be on the lookout for a small green fellow named "Yoda". Caution is advised.

|edit| Quite frankly, I haven't a clue (edited anyway)! the word "protocol" seemed overkill to me... this thread is just sending out bad vibes anyway |edit|

Very funny svrman, but isn't it 626? My two favorites :

JNK12 : Socoder is not Jayenkai's website. It exists for the community. All suggestions for new features, or notices of bugs will be noted down and worked on. Unless they're silly, like asking for a WEB-BASED OS OR SOMETHING (Im guessing that's in reference to MadProff's suggestion).

JNK13 : Socoder is a place of many smilies. So long as all the smilies aren't the same stupid yellow circles.

Well, seeing as how stealth has not been banned yet, and how he mentioned before that he wanted to build a learn-2-hack site, this is obviously a game. I know nothing about site security so...damn.

Stealth set us up the bomb?

duh!!

I gotta a trojan virus phish to be inserted
due to inefficient web code that I found within Socoder.
So, if any person finds the faulty web code
and discovers my variant trojan phisy.....it can be stopped.

yeah, right!!

if somebody ever does this or tries to do this
I would ban or have a very serious talking too
about this. and how not to seek attention either from this or just joking. *sigh!!*

but now...sorry I'll still out of this.
get you your kicks, your attention, and your
do goods and feel goods. yeahhhh!

sheesh!!

If Jay built this SOD (Switch Of Death) into the site, couldn't he just turn the SOD off?

you have nothing to apologize for, MadProff.

And also for being both a Proff and Mad too.
Thats expected.

I know Mad Proff, I was in a really Pdof mood as I was typing all that (which essentially became "Jay's Rant") so I figured I'd put something daft in to lighten myself up a little.
Sorry if it seemed off!

So, were not getting the SoCoder OS?

That's kinda a shame, but I think it might be interesting to try to build one. I've got some modules on operating systems next year, as well as one on making a compiler. So it might be interesting to try to build one perhaps running on a VM in Windows. For that, maybe the Java would be best. We could then maybe draw inspiration from Java OS.

I dunno. What would be the point?
Maybe as a fun little adventurous test, like how I made a website that looked like Amiga Workbench about 5 years ago..
But, I can't imagine any real use for it. Especially not a Socoder purpose.

Mainly as a research idea. It'd be quite a challenge to. Maybe it could run full-screen so it would be like a full replacement for the OS your running.

It could maybe also run Java applets inside as an application, so you could easily get and run lots of current software out there. If it were a Java applet itself, it would also run anywhere Java runs.
