I abandoned new game dev tech long ago. Unity was fun for a bit, but passions lay elsewhere.

Web / Game Dev, occasionally finishes off coding games also!

Way back at the start of my internetting journey, and knowing exactly the sort of fast-paced chaotic stuff my head does, I headed to the Amstrad forums and proclaimed my suggestion that as a group, we could rebuild our favourite magazine with type-ins and reviews and whatnot.
I was on a super power trip, and ready for action!!

I asked for people to write short pieces that I could collate to make a "newsletter-like" monthly series.
Knowing I could likely generate tons of type-ins myself, all I really needed was a little structure around it.
The unanimous feedback was of the variety of : "So you expect us all to do the work for you?"

I left that community.
I love my Amstrad, and if I'd have focussed all these 25'ish years on doing Amstrad stuff, god only knows what things I'd have brought to that community.
Fuck 'em all.

Additionally, I've made it my job never to downplay newbies' grand ideas ever since. I've tried my best to warn them of the difficulties, and sway them away from potential copyright issues, but everyone has a dream, and we should nurture those thoughts, because.. if anything, the Amstrad CPC game collection would probably be 1000 games stronger, by now.

The ability to forget to do my daily soundoff post because I'm laser focused on writing a new Mudchat.
Also, I paid £13.99 for that Spiderverse movie yesterday, but didn't have time to watch it.
Damn you, Mudchat!!!

"I want to be... A tree!"

I'll be an Amstrad CPC, loved for years, stored in a warm corner of the room, overlooking the people as they get old.
But I'd miss them, once they send me away to a new home.
And I might cry a bit.

By Deed poll, Jayenkai, obv!
But if I had to change from Jayenkai. Gosh, I'm not sure.
Memories of what CyanGames had to go through.. not easy to replace yourself, especially after so long.

... though, if I'm honest, I have a buttload of characters in my arsenal that I could choose from.

If you could hack into any website or system, what would it be and what would you do with it?
Since we are on a coding forum, how about what have you hacked?

Will mention one and one I have discussed publicly. I modified a couple of my shareware programs (that combined were making me just over $4,000 every month) and made them free with a special license, where only Paul Turley was allowed to distribute them. It was clear in the license the permission was for him, and not his company, as that way if the company ever changed hands, the distribution rights would NOT be transferred to the new owner. All clearly spelled out in the license.

When the company changed hands, the new owner Tom Hanlin continued distributing my software without my permission. He ignored emails and telephone calls and snail mail asking him to remove my software from his site. I take piracy of my software very seriously. I removed my things from his site, he had somebody put them back. I ended up having to not only remove my stuff from his site again, but basically make it nonfunctional to put an end to the open piracy of my products.

What is the worst advice you have ever given or received?
How about the best advice I ignored?

When I went to move to Tennessee from Maryland, my friend Jeff said rent a Hertz truck, not a UHaul. Hertz trucks are always newer and they switch them out more often. Since Carolyn and I had already reserved the UHaul and put a deposit, we stuck with the UHaul, which had some engine issues along the way. Ended up getting a mechanic to look at it, and told him if I continue to drive it will it get me where I am going, I do not care if it destroys the engine. He said it would and this was a pro mechanic who worked on the big trucks. Got it to TN, but it was close, got it unloaded, and got it the 10 miles to the rental place and it died as soon as we got in their driveway.

Complained to corporate and got $4,000+ back on the rental, and it only cost us the initial deposit of $200 plus gas.

Additionally, I've made it my job never to downplay newbies' grand ideas ever since. I've tried my best to warn them of the difficulties, and sway them away from potential copyright issues, but everyone has a dream, and we should nurture those thoughts, because..
Indeed. Pretty much the Blitz community in the later years. Anything somebody posted automatically "sucked" and was trashed. Still that mentality (or lack thereof) on the one Blitz offshoot forums. We all were beginners at some point and folks my age would have loved to have an encouraging and supportive forum to learn from back when we started in '79 or earlier.

How many pairs of shoes do you have?
Let me preface by saying it is very difficult for Ole' Kuron to find shoes he likes and shoes that fit, so when he does it is not uncommon to buy a couple of pairs. In fact, after wifey died and it looked like I was not going to be getting out to the store anymore, I bought four pair so I would have something comfortable to do my daily exercise walking in for a while.

Between slippers and shoes, I probably have about 12-14 pairs if you count my winter boots. Many are duplicates though, so when one pair wears out, it can be replaced by an identical pair. That's the way Ole' Kuron rolls!

What are your hidden talents?
Can build some beautiful electric guitars. Good at general home repair, electrical, plumbing, carpentry. Still good with electronics. Good with mechanical stuff on cars and some body work.

Not a talent, but Ole' Kuron can be caring. Lately in the 103F-107F temps, in the hottest part of the day have been cruising through town with a cooler full of ice and bottled water handing it out to the homeless and making sure they are hydrated.

What is the most surprising or scary thing that happened to you because of technology?
I get to hear my nuts sing like the whales in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Urologist does periodic ultrasounds on the testicles keeping an eye out for cancer due to a lump and when the sound is turned on, my nuts sound like the whales in Star Trek IV. Taking being a Trekkie to another level. Kuron's nuts FTW!

If you could be any type of object, what would you like to be?
Alexa Bliss's or Margot Robbie's vibrator.

If you had to change your name, what would you choose and why?
Kuron and it may be legally changed before too long. The origin of Kuron. In the mid 70s, I did some maps and an "adventure scenario" called "The Last Sentinel of Kuron". Kuron was a planet. I liked the name and it became my nickname and I have pretty much gone by that in real life since then.

Memories of what CyanGames had to go through.
Latest is Jack Dorsey stole the CyanGames avatar for Blue Sky.

I have a buttload of characters in my arsenal that I could choose from.
I never cease to be amazed at what you pull out of your butt. Your butt is like Felix the Cat's magic bag.
