Why?

9th October 2010

I'm not sure Jay needs to do that. A small team of writers would be sufficient.

I personally find no real use for the newsletter. It's basically rehashed versions of stuff that happened this week on SoCoder--which I've already read.
I still like the newsletter idea, I just don't like how it's all unoriginal content. Maybe we could wo*snip*

Improvements!

I've learned to just use SoCoder the way it's built. Focus on the conversations, not the site.
Jay simply doesn't have the time to turn SoCoder in to a professional site. It takes a lot longer than you'd think.

Destroying a hard drive

16th September 2010

I love how everyone has these really elaborate ideas of how to destroy a disk. It's just as simple as a multipass wipe. It's obviously too late here, but if anyone else does it, just do that. You can reuse or sell the disk then.

Destroying a hard drive

16th September 2010

The problem with physically destroying a disk is that it's not as thorough. Data recovery experts can recover data from hard drives that have been on fire. The only correct way to do it is to use data wiping software and give it about 10 passes. It will ta*snip*

Spinal is right. A deep erase tool is the best route to go. Plus you can save the drive.

You don't have to wait to remove it. As long as you aren't printing, it will be fine.
That feature was created because Windows has an option to write data to the disk slowly and the remove disk option will wrap up any file write operations.
