Original vs Remake

24th August 2012

I've played precisely 2 Maddens: 1994 and 2006. 1994 was a game. 2006 was a TV show. The AI plays the whole damned thing for you. I'm not even sure it cares what buttons you press.

Original vs Remake

23rd August 2012

Honestly, I couldn't think of a single game where the remake was better.

Bubye Psygnosis

22nd August 2012

I know there were several levels in Lemmings using Psygnosis graphics, and it was at least initially sold under the Psygnosis name, but how much input did Psygnosis actually have into Lemmings? I thought Lemmings was by DMA Design aka Rockstar North.

Price Insanity

20th August 2012

It's something to do with not being able to sell below the MSRP. Dunno why they can't just drop the MSRP on games they haven't published on disc for two years, but whatevs.

Price Insanity

19th August 2012

With few exceptions Games on Demand don't even get listed until well after they've hit bargain bins, yet the absolute minimum price they can be listed at is at the high end of the bargain bins $19.99. Far more of them list at $29.99. And anything that isn'*snip*

Have you looked at Microsoft's Games on Demand prices? :)

Android on your PC?

11th August 2012

2G Linux Eee Surf?
I'd tend to think it needs a beefier Eee, but I'd willingly sacrifice my Surf to the task if it were possible.
Linkage?

Android on your PC?

11th August 2012

I've heard those Android emus are chuggingly slow even on beefy PCs, so not real great to judge your app's performance.
Since I have not a beefy PC and am doing my coding in Monkey, I have not bothered to set one up.
I just compile to HTML5 (or sometimes*snip*

I wonder if each of those messages sends an email, too?

Rar vs Zip

27th July 2012

Most email servers I encounter refuse zip attachments, actually. For email I'm generally forced to use rar.

9572AD

Rar vs Zip

27th July 2012

It depends what you're compressing, but rar is generally better.
Is 7zip a branch of zip or something completely separate?

3DS Doing Things

25th July 2012

The 3DS can and will do anything it damned well pleases, including sending all the photos you've taken back to Nintendo and bricking itself on remote command. That's why I've refused to support the thing.

Ouya!

RPi does XBMC. RPi does MAME. RPi doesn't do Android yet, but could if someone would port it. Any of those things puts a couple projects in mind.

Ouya!

12th July 2012

The Game Gadget was around for about two weeks before the internet exploded with vitriol painting it a worthless scam. I think all the interested developers bailed after that.

Higgs Boson found?

9th July 2012

...And then they stopped using the plum-pudding model and thought up a new model...presumably.
The difference being, in the case of the Higgs, that they were right all along so *nothing has changed*

9572AD

Higgs Boson found?

8th July 2012

You don't have to know for certain it exists before you can test whether things behave as though it exists or not.

9572AD

Higgs Boson found?

8th July 2012

No, that's pretty much exactly how science works. You take your best guess and you build on it until you get contradictory results. There is no such thing as an absolute fact in science, only things that have not been wrong yet.

9572AD

Higgs Boson found?

8th July 2012

I'd call finding every predicted particle aside from the Higgs pretty much from the off and the rest relatively short order pretty good evidence and am fairly certain scientists have been using the Standard Model to make predictions for a good long time al*snip*

Higgs Boson found?

7th July 2012

Sorry, but finding the Higgs boson does nothing but confirm the scientific model we've been using for decades. It's not even an evolution, much less a revolution.

Multi system SNES joypad...

You always hear that building a nuclear detonation device is not particularly difficult but...once you've built it how are you going to test it?
Disinformation propaganda?

9572AD

Higgs Boson found?

6th July 2012

My one concern was the very real possibility of a stable micro-singularity forming, drifting to the center of the earth (gravity) and then growing until it suddenly devours the planet.
Something which may have happened but we won't know until we're doome*snip*

HTML vs Coders Logic

29th May 2012

html/css is ''markup''. Mental dilemma solved. :) Also, a lot of it is very wrong. I gave up in the early days of html4, and it doesn't look to be any better today.
