Nobunaga's Ambition (series)

One series that's always fascinated me from afar is KOEI's Nobunaga's Ambition series.
Essentially the game is set in feudal Japan and the goal is to unify the country through economics, conquest, trade, and diplomacy.
You pick your starting fief and its resident daimyo and off you go manipulating vague numbers and going to war to conquer other neighboring fiefs.

The opaque thing is that everything is represented by a numeric value so it's hard to know what is good or bad or what needs to be improved.
Most of the books are very thick too that come with the games.

Perhaps I'll take the plunge and embark on my copy for Sega Genesis (I have the mega mouse so I can play it in style).
I've read through the manual and should probably take some notes.

Playthrough of one fief below.

Oh, and as a bonus, Kou Shibusawa wrote the early games in BASIC.
The DOS version is currently abandonware.
