Socoder -> On Topic -> Improvements!

I'd like to see an email subscription feature, where you can subscribe to a thread and get your email inbox chock full of email messages whenever someone replies to a thread (or a message within a thread).

If anyone else has any suggestions or otherwise, post below. I'm sure Jay'd like to hear about 'em.

Maybe Hobo could port Poxml to PHP and we could have support for XML formatting the messages in the forum?

I know lots of people who follow forums via e-mail subscriptions, so that would be a good idea.

but what would be gained from this?

Not right now, busy as a bee.
But mailing has always been down to GoDaddy. I'm not too sure how much I can push it.
To be fair, I've honestly not even TRIED, but .. well, it's kinda quirky as it is, really.

Maybe someday.

... What exactly would randomly reformatting all the posts into XML achieve, other than making them bigger?

1. Stealth's AJAX Topic suggestion, from about 187 years ago.
2. FFS, Sort the damn themes out!!
3. I had an idea for a feature, but can't quite whittle it down into something that appears to work! Not telling what that one is, just yet, since it'd just disappoint folk.
4. OffTopic mini-miniposts.
5. Fix the bug that I created last month, which I don't think anybody's noticed yet. (Note, don't worry, it's not a site-killing bug, just a .. um... Jay-quirk!)
6. .. I did have another one, but the thought went out of my mind whilst typing #5, so.. um.. I'll get to that one, eventually!

I've learned to just use SoCoder the way it's built. Focus on the conversations, not the site.

Jay simply doesn't have the time to turn SoCoder in to a professional site. It takes a lot longer than you'd think.

Quit posting and try Google.

Jay doesn't want Socoder to be "professional".. Jay thinks it's nice and snuggley here.

I suggested this over and over. Seems a moot point!

SoCoders fine- it's like that old car that you have to kick in a special spot to open the door - it's quirky but we love it anyways.

Because you could do stuff like:

<banayellow>BananaYellow text here!</bananayellow>

and

<christmastree>Your text is surrounded by two blinking Christmas Trees!</christmastree>

and

<source>
<lang=lua>
Sourcecode here!
</lua>
<lang=CPlus>
Sourcecode here!
</CPlus>
</source>

and

<textsize=498>Superbig text here!</textsize>

Colours used to work, but were removed due to folk making unreadable garbled messes, by assuming their theme was the only colourscheme.

Xmastree example can be done with BBCode, there's no reason whatsoever why we'd have to shove XML in here just to do that.

MultiLanguageHighlighting is something I've wanted to add, but have had to hold off doing due to "I just want to damn well copy the fucking code into the god damned fucking clipboard, FFS!!" issues. If you can find it, let me know..

"Nice", maybe
"Excellent", nope.

Linkage
Challenge : Copy the C++ box's code in one easy click.

(additionally : Flaming Munky, look at the sourcecode on that page?! Fecker's over 120Kb!! If you copy+paste the whole page it's only 25kb. That's a 480% increase!! or is it 380% increase!? .. .. It got r bigun)

Works fine for me? Click, drag, right-click copy, open Notepad2, paste.

I think all the extra code is just testing. Also, I never bothered with the specific libs for each language - just the default (12kb) lib does a good enough job.

It's as simple as including the lib, adding a tiny bit to your CSS, and adding an extra CSS class to your code boxes.
