I tend to agree - Pokemon Yellow was my fave and the only game in the whole bunch I "completed" (meaning I finished it with a large quantity of Pokemon, but not 100%).

Many of the newer Pokemon are strange looking "things" too - I liked the originals being based on real-life animals or phenomena.

They may be up to 718 in the Pokemon universe, but any particular game hasn't had more than 250 that I'm aware of.
Also, you can never catch 'em all, unless you're both OC and lucky as hell. Every game has at least one Pokemon that has to be unlocked by Nintendo themselves as a prize at some event.
