what happened was, someone was spoofing my email address and I was getting close to 1,000 "delivery failed" messages per hour last night.

Hostgator don't have a ticketing system for support any more, just a live chat thing. He tried telling my that my website had a malicious script in it that was sending the emails. It doesn't. I'd changed all of my passwords to be sure. He kept going on about their Support Service helping me to resolve it, and I'm like, "so, I don't need to do anything myself right now?" but he didn't answer.

In the end I said "look, what do *I* do, right now, to resolve this". That's when he told me that I had to sign up to their "support service" which is payable by annual subscription at a cost of $99/month.

Yes, you fucking read that right. It's basically "yeah, we know how to stop it, but we're not going to unless you give us $1200".

When I started to quiz him about where this "malicious script" might be, he turned into a right condescending prick, which is when he attempted to explain to me what "phishing" is.

I basically said fuck it, I'll go somewhere else. He replied "well that won't solve anything". It actually will, because I won't need to deal with extortion attempts from the shitwizards at Hostgator customer support any more.

Hmm. Yeah, you don't need that...
