It still is isnt it, just been greenlighted thats all, but I'll be honest, this should've happened years ago, and Mark should've done it himself, with monkey as well... I got a little feeling people will take to it for a play etc, but, probably a little too late for it for any major impact on generating users!

Yep!, still free. Go into your account, register products, use the registration code FREEBLITZMAX, download it from the product updates section.

I think Mark was dead against it because of what happened with Idigicon. He handed them the license, then they immediately started giving the whole thing away on practically every magazine coverdisk they could get it onto.

(* from what I've heard)

Monkey's really been the first one where a "limited" demo version is at least viable, since you can block out alternative targets.
I wonder if he's done that with Monkey2, too?

They actually gave away Blitzbasic (which wasn't selling hugely any more) to drive sales of Blitz3D. I worked at Idigicon at the time and it generated a ton of sales of Blitz3D, and drew in God knows how many people who went on to buy BlitzPlus, BlitzMax, Monkey etc.

Mark just didn't understand the bigger picture. It wasn't about giving his shit away - it was about maximising sales of the new stuff by using an earlier product (that was past its peak) as a marketing tool. To this day I'd consider it a good move, but I can understand Mark being pissed if he wasn't even consulted about it. But that still doesn't mean it was a bad idea.

Basically, if it wasnt for Guildhall plonking it on PC Format, I would never have used it, I wouldnt have bought anything (And I've bought the lot so far), so actually, regardless of what people say about them, they still generated BRL a few hundred of $$$'s off me years after "The split"!

Now thats good advertising if you ask me!

I also got my original Blitz2D from PCPlus, and thank god I did.. Because before that, I was using fucking DarkBasic, with it's annoying "Let's change the desktop resolution, and move all the icons around, EVERY TIME HE OPENS THE IDE" bollocks.

I like to think I'd've eventually stumbled upon Blitz, but who knows.

Yep same here. I too bought Blitz3D and then BlitzMax as a direct result of Blitz being on PC Format.
