The other day, my laptop inexplicably rebooted.
Unlike most Win10 Update style recent reboots, this one came without warning, and just sort of happened..
Baffled, but nonplussed, I continued for about an hour or two of coding, then got up to make a brew.
When I returned, and picked the laptop off the couch to sit it on my lap, the laptop once again rebooted.

Later in the day, I once again got to the "Picking the laptop off the couch, plopping it onto my lap" point, and again it rebooted.

I immediately assumed this was a hard drive failure, and set about (as you do) doing a major backup.
It's been a couple of days since then.
I've taken to, every half hour or so, lifting up the laptop and giving it a random shake.
Which is resulting in nothing..

.. Except when I have the charge cable attached.

Seems that the "something wrong" might in fact be the cable, although quite how I'm not sure.
Hmmm...

Dev-times are now reduced to "when it isn't charging", and since the lappy has a craptastic (~3 hours to charge, ~1 hour to discharge!) timescale, that's a bit of a shit amount of dev-time.

But at least I don't have to buy a new lappy.
A new charger, maybe, but the lappy's not quite dead, yet!

*phew*

.. Which is a good fucking job, because, seemingly randomly, Mum's decided to buy a new Sofa for the living room.. FFS, just when you've no cash, up pops the "Let's spend cash" fairy! That, Xmas pressies to buy, and a Nintendo Switch to save up for.. No time to be buying a Laptop!

We have a shit-ton of birthdays and anniversaries in November, then Christmas in December. Our flexible friend doesn't know what's hit it. :/

For your laptop - could be a dirty connection on the charger/port. Get some electrical switch cleaner (about £4 from Maplins), give the socket and the charger cable a good squirt, and stick a cotton bud in it to give it a good clean. Might work, might not. But cheaper than doling out for a new charger if it does.

(don't be tempted to use WD40 - very very bad for electronics)
