eBay are starting to apply VAT to seller fees. Fucks sake... already pay em nearly £100/mo.

If they bother to pay that back to the government, then I guess that's ok.. But it's only a matter of time until the horrors of "eBay Hasn't Paid Taxes" starts popping up everywhere..

I'm currently paying fees to eBay Europe s.a.r.l. Apparently they're changing to eBay UK, hence the VAT cobblers.

I've emailed my accountant. He knows about this shit and VAT just scares me.

I wonder if the VAT might replace the current fees, or at least take a sizeable chunk out of it.
Surely they wouldn't just add an extra dollop on top... ... would they?!

Apparently that's exactly what they're doing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For us, it's already borderline whether it's worth having an eBay shop as most of our orders come from elsewhere. The extra VAT cost may just tip the balance and force us to close it.

Bastards..
They're just using Brexit as a bloody excuse.
I swear, we're all going to get completely fucked by this, and not for actual fucking reasons, either.. just because companies will see an opportunity and jump at the chance.

eBay have made a bunch of crazy updates of late, they are geting particularly paranoid about people selling off-site and so have taken the action to prevent contact information in listing descriptions and are shortly (aroun the start of september) going to fully enforce that on all sellers, which is pretty disgustingly paranoid.

The lack of any ability to request for large images from customers which are suitable for printing on anything with a decent quality without breaking ebay regs (that includes giving them your email address to send a file to by the way) really is another ridiculous step backwards, unless they come up with a solution to this, pronto, or go back on their arcane restrictions on sellers, ebay isgoing to become a much quieter place than it already is.

It's bad enough that there are a good number of dodgy customers out there whom ebay will favour in most instances where someone "hasn't" recieved an item, or sends a tracked return envelope, with nothing inside it! It's not seller friendly in the slightest and only seems to be getting worse sadly. Amazon are okay but for us, not as big as eBay for sales.

If you haven't already, I'd recommend checking out tamebay.com/ They have a ready steam of information on ebay's policy changes.

The problem then, of course, is that that isn’t where the customers are. That’s exactly why eBay is as “useful” as it is..

... and they know it!!!

Exactly. I reckon shareholders made a rash decision after learning that a percentage of possible sales were ocurring off-site and sadly have wrenched the site through it all!

You know they even charge fees on postage now? I charge fair - what I get for postage, goes on postage. Why the fuck am I having to give eBay some of it?

Fucksocks.

Accountant says if I voluntarily register for VAT then I have to pay VAT on sales. Which means either putting prices up by 20%, or setting the current prices to already collect VAT so my profits are cut. Further, my accountant would have to do a quarterly VAT return, which will cost more on top of the grand or so a year I already pay.

Either way, eBay's got us by the bollocks on this one. :/

We try to redirect people to our site in what is currently the only ebay-safe way to do so, by bunging some of our own branded stuff to our website with a discount code, not sure how well it's worked for us but if you're not doing that it might help reduce the reliance on ebay over time.

I used to have a link to our facebook page in our eBay message signature, but they've removed it and didn't even tell me they were doing it.

Yeah, that's forbidden now :/ They're hiding the business contact information 2 clicks away from the lsiting details also in a lil bit.

I stopped using Ebay to sell stuff after I sold an old iPhone after an upgrade, then had to wait 40 year to get my money off them!

Never again... Some sod sitting with my phone, and me having to check constantly when the funds will be released!

Not fun, and not worth it really for someone that just sells odds and ends occasionally!

They did that to me a few times, too. And we'd sold shitloads on there before - £1000's worth of gear. Then all of a sudden they hold payment on an £11 t-shirt for a fortnight for no fucking reason. They've got the money, and tell me it's OK to send the item, so why hold the money?

Fortunately that hasn't happened again in more than a year now so hopefully they're done with whatever they were doing.
