Aaah, it was the "Creators' Update", so no doubt 95% of my creating tools are now no longer runnable!!!

Yeah, Win10. It's finally back up and running.
I'm about 10 minutes into Episode 2 of Designated Survivor, so it's taken about an hour or so.
Bloody thing..

I was planning on doing a lot of coding, tonight. Ironically, the Creators Update put a stop to that..

Ah, installed that ages ago. Had a few problems as I recall - update got stuck and ended up using system restore. :s

I would suggest go to your Ethernet manufacturer's website, download and install latest driver. For some reason, several people have had bad network drivers installed with the creator's update causing overheating problems. Had the same thing happening to me.

Turns out I didn't install it ages ago - must've given up.

It's doing it now. :/

Piece of shit is stuck at 17%.

Rebooted, restored system back, turned defender and firewall off, tried all sorts of shit. Still stuck at 17%.

Fucks sake, Microsoft. If it just told me WHY it was getting stuck, it might help.

Windows 10 reinstalled... all went well except for the bloody Synaptics touchpad drivers. Lenovo don't provide any for this laptop and Windows 10. Other drivers for newer Lenovo laptops refused to install. The drivers from Synaptics themselves wouldn't install.

In the end, after three hours of pissing about, I stumbled across some random Windows 10 Synaptics drivers on a random driver site, and downloaded them all. Found one that works. It's now safely stored away on my NAS, ready for the next time Windows 10 goes tits-up. Because it surely will.

I honestly don't mind Windows 10. Its just that when shit breaks, shit REALLY breaks. I don't remember ever having to fart about like this back in the XP days.

Next: a 4GB Windows update, then the Creators update. See how far we get this time.

Oh - my biggest beef with Windows is it's internal handling of ZIP files. It takes bloody ages to extract the contents - exponentially slower than WinRAR. And it's been like that since forever.

Yeah, they're getting better at making things stable, but like you say, a failure can be spectacular!!
.. And god knows why the bloody hard drive's hammering away, literally ALL DAY. WTF is it doing!?

I have an SSD in mine so I don't get any of that. I mean.... it's likely still doing it, I just don't know it's doing it.

Frankly, I'd worry about an SSD, given the amount of hammering it's doing.

Maybe, but there's nothing critical on my laptop. It's been in there since Windows 10 appeared, and probably a year or more before that. If it dies I've got shit-tons of spare 2.5" HDDs knocking about the place.

Never had a crash with Windows 10. First version of Windows I can say that for.

Wasn't bad at all for me on XP SP2. Very speedy. 7 and above, ZIPs are slow as can be. I use Bandizip very fast and reliable. But prefer the older version due to interface changes.

*Mumbles something about the new version of Socoder still not having a button for quote tags.*

I still hate forum posts where posters add virtually nothing, but copy and paste previous posts, over and over.

No movement for an hour and a half - given up waiting again.

Downloading the update ISO. Will burn it to a DVD and try it that way. If not.... I dunno.
