That kid must be some sort of crank, but what's the bet that some twat in the media will be blaming it on playing video games!

I noticed a news item a few days ago where they showed how far they are getting with reading a brain. Now they were able to create a picture on a computer screen of what you were thinking of.

Maybe part of the solution to stopping these things from happening is in futuristic tech like this. Being able to find problems in the brain and then having a treatment. I hope in 20 years (depending the funding!) people never get to that point where they decide to go out and kill or/and kill theirselfs.

They've shown old photos of this kid posing with guns. He was ALWAYS going to do something like this - just a question of where and when.

If that isn't enough of a red flag then i don't see how getting him in for a voluntary brain scan is going to help.

Or maybe making it harder for everyone and their dog to get hold of a lethal weapon in the first place?
I'm more than happy to live in a country where the gun ownership percentage is around 6%, than in a country where it is more than 101%. Yes there are more guns legally owned in America than there are people. Not to mention the fact that American police are getting sacked for NOT shooting people and instead trying to talk to people. Guess how many people in the UK are shot by police... less than 6. How many in America? About 1000 with around 20% of the people being shot were unarmed.
And the next person who says something stupid like "guns don't kill people, people kill people" can piss right off. If someone is angry enough to go out and start a fight with someone and you make it easy for people to get hold of guns, what the hell do you think will happen vs people NOT being able to get guns?

America - Do something about your gun laws, you get less and less sympathy from the rest of the world every single time this happens and you do absolutely nothing about it.

For clarification there hasn't been a school shooting in the UK for 20 years, and in the US there has been 20 THIS YEAR.

I have a hard head in this. People can make explosives with simple household products and drive a car or truck into a crowd. Set fire on a building. Use poison etc.

There should be more attention to how people get messed up. Prevent this from happening. For so long people who did something wrong get firmly punished and after that is where it seems to end. No before and no after.

I have been listening to cbs for a couple of hours and do hear that some good things(for me) are being said, like a mayor explaining that all students should be helped into fitting in. Making sure they do not get isolated in school. This mayor had been a teacher before he was elected mayor.

In my first year on the higher school here one kid commited suicide. Kids there could be very mean(criminal) to each other. I was a victim there also and I remember how much anger I had for years.

And this is what happens.
People say "...but mental health" and THAT becomes the issue.
Meanwhile, guns guns guns are "never" the problem.

Yes, you could make a bomb. But why bother to learn how, and struggle to get all the parts, when you could just go out and buy a mass murdering assault rifle?

People can talk all they want about helping kids fit in, and taking action against bullying etc. However, here in the UK we have had ONE school shooting EVER, have a guess why we haven't had NINETEEN in SIX WEEKS this year? Because people find it REALLY HARD to get hold of guns. It's not rocket science. We banned guns, now hardly anyone in the country ever gets shot.

If I don't have a gun, I can't shoot you, no matter how bad my upbringing, or how many mental issues I have. Yet if I have a gun, even if I am the most calm, stable and enlightened person on the planet, I can still shoot you with it.

Blaming mental health, media and videogames is easy. It's also a load of bollocks.

I have worked in mental health for over 25years and have been assaulted only once in all that time. I'm surrounded by people with bipolar, schizophrenia, depresion, personality disorders and learning disabilities etc. every single day. All of them have access to me directly and sharp objects, including scissors, knives (the kitchen is unlocked) and their own posessions, including razors not to meantion large, and/or heavy objects such as tvs, radios, cups, plates etc. Not once has a service user threatened me with such.

So being around people with mental health issues is not generally dangerous. Being around people with guns, obviously, is - whether they have issues or not. So, what are the officials going to do? Blame, mental health, the media and videogames. Obviously.

I've suffered with mental health for more years than I care to remember, I too have never felt the need to obtain guns or go out killing people either.

the 18-19-20 figure (changes every time I see it) is based on misleading information
https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/no-there-havent-been-18-school-shooting-in-2018-that-number-is-flat-wrong/2018/02/15/65b6cf72-1264-11e8-8ea1-c1d91fcec3fe_story.html?utm_term=.96ceb993027a

Of course, even one shooting is one too many.

Well, even if you change it to 19 (or 18, or 20) gun-related incidents in 45 days, it's still a shit statistic for a country who delights in waving the second amendment in everyone's face like it's some sort of trophy.

Hmmm, Trump's solution is more guns... arm the teachers. Now what happens when a teacher goes crazy!?
Thu, 22 Feb 2018, 03:25

The only solution is to ban guns. It does look this time as though enough students will be protesting all over the place to enact some sort of change.
And, yeah, more guns? stupidest solution anyone can ever think up. It's like poring petrol on a fire in hopes that it will dampen the flames.

Trump is also recommending putting fires out with petrol, and beating hospital patients better with sticks.

Well... not yet. But surely it's only a matter of time.

Trump and his family are pro-gun and pro-hunting. He is the last person that's going to introduce any positive change to gun laws.

Yeah, it's only a matter of time before some kind of "Gigantic Killing Machine - Mini" appears, and they stock that because it's "Not as bad" or some other shitty excuse.

And now a teacher with a gun in Georgia is causing an issue, the same day that Good old USA declares it's going to spend $67m arming teachers.

If I was an American parent I wouldn't be letting my kids leave the house for the rest of their lives.
