Nice train of thought... But, meh...

They've just rejigged the "cog" system, because thats all it is obviously, but bending teeth over a little to me isn't proper innovation. I mean, yeah, its good its got no chain, but for me, they've just put the innerds of a clock on a bike.

Then there will be the cost, bikes typically get bashed about, 8 hours machining for one part, thats gonna cost some, I reckon your talking over £200 just for machining alone... How much is a bike chain, a tenner, if that!

For me, they've took something, and over engineered it, by the time they strengthen it all up, protected everything, the efficiency will be lost.

Stil, nice idea I suppose, but I dont think it'll catch on.

Depends... I can see if being useful in pro racing - where every watt saved counts.. also pro chains are more in the 100+ range.

However, non pro use - it doesn't look good. I can imagine all the shit and dirt getting into all those little bearings and mashing them after a few 100 miles.

The reason for bending those teeth over is to eventually provide a way of moving the pinion back and forth to provide almost infinite gearing, somthing that just isn't possible on traditional gears. The cost at the moment will be astronomical, due to it still being a concept, showing it off at a bike show is just a way to attract investors. Once investors get involved it would become shitloads cheaper.

Some people may not see the point of what they are doing where others will, but at the end of the day, the proof is in the riding really. Me personally, I understand that they are trying to pave the way to a CVT for human-powered vehicles.
