Going pro (ipad pro 2021 with m1)

I took the dive and ordered a ipad pro 2021. I got the mail an hour ago that they could be here by tomorrow and had been eying it since release.

The only reason I'm going pro is because of the time I have been investing in writing music on apple devices. I have spend around 160 hours editing songs this year alone. The single core speed of this ipad pro is 50% higher(apple m1) so that should help in being able to use more cpu hungry synthesizers.

Main plusses : 4 speakers, faster single core for synthesizers apps, more ram.
Negatives : Needs usb-c > jack convertor to be able to use a headphone.

Reviews mention the battery life is not that great and the charging speed has not improved since the previous ipad pro.

Oh, and here on my soundcloud you can see how much I have used to ipad/iphone for music ( all amiga<>c64 remixes.)

Now for the long wait and not to be stressed out thinking they might mess up and/or send me a broken one.

oh, and I have the cheapest version. This one with only 128gb of memory. I checked my old ipad and after 2 years of use I have half the space still left unused.

Woohoo!
Expensive, but given how much I use my iPad, I think it's definitely worth it.
I'm still on a plain iPad Air, but it's certainly a capable little bugger.

Hope it shows up in good order.
*excite*

I rushed the order when the mail came in. It looks like all the 12inch pro's are sold out already. They were available from yesterday! I was not willing to wait a year before the supply issues are solved.

Ok, I have the device. I just finished installing and reentering all the passwords(!) for almost every app. I also needed to check and restore every inapp purchased ever because that never goes automatic.

I asume it is the m1 ipad. I can see nothing mentioned about it in any screen. At first I thought they send me the model of the previous year. The speakers were said to be a little bit closer to the center, so that matches.

The thing is very slim. The sound is loud! Not sure if the case is correct as the store send me wrong ones before. So the speakers might be partly covered.

Oooh, what kind of case did you get?

I've never once added a case to an iPad. The things are just the right size as they are. I don't need a great big lumbering addition to the form factor!

Phone, though.. definitely.
My current phone case is...

This is a book case. A targus click in. I won't use a ipad without one.

There are better quality ones that I prefer, but they were sold out at the moment.

One of those with a keyboard would be nice, but .. ..
Having once tried the whole "keyboard + iPad + reaching to prod the screen" scenario, and had MAJOR cramps in my arm fairly rapidly, I decided it's best to leave the touchscreen as a more laid-down surface!

Those apple magic keyboards cost a fortune. I have a small bluetooth keyboard if I really need to type a lot.

When I really spend longer periods on iphone or ipad I get cramped quite quickly. The setup here where I can have it in front of me on a little table seems to work out for me.

It looks like the ipad pro 2021 charges from 18% battery to 100% in around 2 hours of charging.

I spend some 3 hours in Korg Gadget yesterday and can say I have not run into problems yet. When I rendered a first version of a song I was suprised of how fast this went. I'm slowly trying to use more synthesizers with it. There is a small issue with sound, but I tink this is a early driver issue.

It has no Home button and I was getting used to use that to switch from Vividtracker to Gadget and back to read and write notes. The ipad pro has to have the finger swiped from bottom to up to switch between apps. This seems to be a better method actually.

I also tried the usb-c to headphone jack converter. This little thing looks very breakable and cost me 16 euro's. It does work. Luckely the sound does not get cut of if you have it in the usb-c slot, only if you have the headphone jack inside the converter.

No home button? Argh..
I'm kinda getting used to that on my iPhone, but I'm not sure I could do it on the iPad, too..
I probably could.
.. *shrugs*

I just hate having to code things with giant sodding borders, incase one of the many iOS touch/swipes cause my games to freak out.
Grrr..
