Question of the Day : July 25th

If you could travel to any fictional world, where would you go and what would you do there?

I'd love to aimlessly wander through some videogame landscapes. Zelda:BOTW/TOTK is an obvious one, but there's also been some gorgeous looking Sonic levels in the past, too.
Of course, I couldn't.. not just because they don't exist, but also due to my lack of aimless-wander abilities.

.. sure would be nice, though.

Question of the Day : July 26th

Do you watch the ads on YouTube or skip them?
Wed, 26 Jul 2023, 01:28
Jayenkai
I used to watch them all, but lately "all" has been a much stupider percentage of the content.

Which musical instruments can you play?

I can play over 30 different instruments. I will spare boring you by listing them all.

If you had to design a new emoji, what would it look like and what would it mean?

Elon Musk's face. It would mean: bad idea.

If you could create your own virtual reality world, what would it look like and what would you do in it?

The Enterprise from Star Trek Voyager and the galaxies it explored.

How has the game development/music composition industry changed over the years?

Sound quality of samples used in Keyboards and Digital Pianos have largely changed for the better, although I still love the 70s and 80s era Strings sounds.

If you could travel to any fictional world, where would you go and what would you do there?

The world in Lost World. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I would survive.

Do you watch the ads on YouTube or skip them?

I am 54 years old. I am not spending what little time I have left watching YT ads. I just recently switched to GPT-AdBlocker which not only blocks all normal ads, but it also blocks the ads the person in the video puts in the video or when they promote a product.

Question of the Day : July 27th

What was the best year of your life?
Thu, 27 Jul 2023, 01:28
Jayenkai
A specific year?
Hmmm. '98.
College, Platdude, PC's, 18, etc.
That was a good year.

Question of the Day : July 28th

How do you think the games from the 80s and 90s hold up today?
Fri, 28 Jul 2023, 01:45
Jayenkai
Epically!

Some of them, great!

Anything from the 80s is better than most things today. Early 90s had some legendary games, as well.

Question of the Day : July 29th

Where did your family's traditions originate?
Sat, 29 Jul 2023, 01:08
Jayenkai
Larne, Ireland. (That's L A R N E, not LAME as it appears with the current font..! )

Where, across the sea, you can see "Isle Magee", which my Mum was gobsmacked to find out isn't actually an island, when she first got to play with Google Maps, alll those many years ago.

If we're allowed to count the Seven Dwarves as one, I'll go for that.
Going to be feeling Sleepy. Wake up feeling Happy.
And goodness knows what Bashful's hiding.

Though, I'm not sure we're allowed to call them the "Seven Dwarves" any more.

Question of the Day : July 31st

What is your favorite music composition software?
Mon, 31 Jul 2023, 00:22
Jayenkai
Currently Ableton on Mac, but before that KorgGadget on iPad, before that FLStudio on Windows, and before that OctaMED on Amiga.
I'm not sure I had any before that. I tried a variety of different ones on the CPC, but nothing ever stuck. I wasn't very musical, in them days. (some might say I'm still not very musical!)

Just one? Can't choose between a few of them really

Super Sonico: pink hair, caring personality, lovely voice, plays guitar and looks amazing, I based Kaede on her body type so, yeah.
Rei Ayanami: Probably my OG anime waifu, again, that voice, there's something about her, would love ,very much, also she's kinda the quiet type which I can get.

Don't ask me to choose!

I do not compose music with software, I only ever use software like a DAW for mastering or other audio processing. There was a drum machine for DOS I would use back in the day for practice, but it was an indie release and I do not remember the name, but I had some contact with the author back in the day. So, what I will answer with is the most used piece of audio computer software/hardware I ever owned.

Audio Spectrum Analyzer cartridge for the TRS-80 Color Computer 2. I literally used this every day, for many, many years. I bought it in 1985, but this wonderful gem was actually made and released in 1981. It was always hooked to my mixer or four track Fostex if I was working on music, or my stereo if I was just listening to music. It was surprisingly accurate for its time and very useful. Shit, I wish I still had it and a CoCo 2 as it would be useful now, but would need two of each to have a stereo display.
