Socoder -> Question of the Day -> QOTD : .com.. Bothered?

I suppose I could set up a stat thing in the engine, but I figured I'd do it this way, and get a wee bit of feedback.

It's been a good few weeks since we got the Socoder.com domain name.

The logo's never said ".net" but personally, I kinda got used to it, and the fact that .com's here.
..
Well, I guess I'm kinda treating that as the "other" domain. The secondary one.. The one I don't really bother with, but that links to the site incase folk type it.

I know that Stealth's all for the .com domain. His viewpoint, is the same as the guy I work with. .com sounds "Proper", whereas .net doesn't!

I don't get that, to be honest.
But whatever.

QsOTD : Do you use .com, or .net? Are you in the slightest bit bothered that the .com works at all, or are you like me, and kinda got used to "Socoder.net"?

I use SoCoder.com. I thought it would fix a certain issue, but it didn't, and then I couldn't be arsed switching back. I'm with Stealth though: SoCoder.com sounds "proper."

What was wrong with socoder.co.nr ?

The theme is messed up on socoder.com, unless that is intentional.

I think .net sounds better then .com, but the majority of people would prefer .com because it's more widespread.

Coders however do not make up the majority of people. Those kinda of people don't really care because they know about all the different types of domains.

We have a .com? Sweet!

I use socoder.co.nr, because that's what's in my history-dropdown when I type in "soc".

I use .net -- I like that domain, it always seemed to me to be the more techy one, less corporate stiflement. I don't think it matters to most coders, but it's nice to have both for publicity reasons, getting people to the site, etc.

I don't really have a preference... although I like .net a bit more since it's not as widespread as .com.

The theme is different. Not the blitzcoder one.

still using .net after switching from .co.nr

I only stressed .com because of its simplicity. New people wouldn't have to think the next time they visited the site ("crap, was it .net or .org!"). And in all honesty, any website that is serious will buy theirsite.com. Just because it's the "web standard".

I noticed the theme is non-BC on .com too. I thought it was because I wasn't logged in, but I think the default theme is wrong.

Just out of curiosity, how much do they rape your wallet for the socoder.com domain ?

fyi, the .net address was down about 5 minutes ago. .com was working fine.

How odd.
They're both the exact same file, so it's the same server, etc.. just the domain that's getting you there.
Very odd that the .net would "break"?
