On another internet forum, I was told that a new programming language, adder, was soon to be released. What's the obbsession with snakes. First there's python, then cobra and now (or soon to be) adder.

Well, I'm told that squeakyduck are making it, the same company that made cobra. Graham should be able to tell us more about it becuase I haven't wisited that forum ever since I wiped my hard drive last month and lost all of my favourite url's. I've tried many times but I can't find the forum again.

Sqeakyduck have said nothing about anything except cobra and ion. Which forum told you about adder?

I've just updated my other post but incase you missed it:

I suppose my sources are unreliable.

woo! finally.
There's a few things to get used to in the ide and the language but other than that it's everything that was promised.

What if this were not a hypothetical question?

If it's between $80 & $100 then thats quite affordable. That's only about £50 & £60 GBP, not much considering I paid nearly £70 GBP for Blitz3D.

Isn't blitz 3d 100 dollars, 56.50 GBP I make it

Cobra will be released at £30, just checking on vat issues, but 99% sure I'll be sticking at that price for the initial release... See my blog entries at squeakyduck

At the time that I purchased B3D, it was £68.62 (I think). That's if I got the pence right, the pounds are definately what I paid. I'm going back nearly 3 years though.

|edit| BTW... That was the boxed version, so that is probably why I paid that amount. |edit|

@ Graham... Only 30 quid... I think I'm going to feint. LOL

|edit| How much will it cost to upgrade to Cobra3D if and when it comes out. Or does the current version do 3D stuff ?. |edit|
Fri, 22 Dec 2006, 15:53
steve_ancell
I've just read your blog Graham... £90 for the pro version is still a good price. I think I will go Pro.

|edit| How much will the 3D module cost ?. |edit|

Not 100% decided on the price of the 3d module, but it's going to be roughly the same, with the same licence options. (eg. an additional £30/£90)

I know you'll ask 'when', so to head that off I have to say 'not 100% sure yet', but it's actually done and working. It has at least one final round of testing to run, main reason why I can't give a date is that I want to make sure the base release is solid before hitting it with and additional 500+ commands!

steve_ancell
£90 for Cobra Pro plus £90 for 3D module, I take it you mean a total of about £180 for both !... That's still quite reasonable for a Pro language, and I still think I will probably go Pro. Do you reckon that development companies will use Cobra ?, coz from what I have seen so far... I think they will.

Ben,

I'm using Winrar.

Yet, its not the Winzip nor the Winrar. The connection breaks off. This morning, I um...or the download came really close to 7.5 megabytes before it closed or disconnected.

On the quack site....finally Graham answered my concern about the download connection breaking off. IHis router doesn't support resume and he is looking into it. Slenkar has used a download manager from both Opera and Firefox...but it keeps breaking. Also a few other people there are having this problem too.
We all have 56k dial-up. How come I can download GLBasic SDK premium which is over 20 megabytes long and have no problem downloading? But the wait is long.
A Youtube video for even 2 to 4 minutes really takes a long time to download. sigh

true, true and yes and cool...I think I will go over to DSL and/or Broadband.

yeah, andrew, I think the price will be about 80 dollars or so for this Cobra 2d. And then, maybe an additional 50 dollars for the 3d module.

hey andrew,

I don't know the obsession with the snakes....maybe the dark angel masquerading as a angel of light and in a form of a shining Christ-type of the Shekinan glory and utilizing the retillian snake in the garden and tempting both Adam and Eve....

at work, a lot of products are having the names of certain snakes such as viper, python, and cobra too. and even nagas too. Viper looks really cool and will phase out other products.

cheers,

@Steve,
Certainly hoping that some pro companies go for it, the initial release of cobra is excellent for casual games because of its extremely low set of system requirements for the final games.

Can you make other apps other than games, such as GUI stuff, paint and graphics apps, and text editors etc ?.
Sun, 24 Dec 2006, 04:38
grahamk
While it is certainly possible, Cobra is very much aimed at games (I certainly wouldn't like to do a text editor with it!).

Personally, I think there are a lot of very good languages out there for doing apps, eg. purebasic, delphi, even vb. So Cobra is more of a targetted language.

One of the potentials is Ion though, as it's the same engine, and plugs into these other languages, that is probably going to be the best for app development. Depending on the language being used, I'm hoping to allow Ion to have a render target, eg. a panel in a window, so you can do standard gui stuff around it, yet still have the "cobra experience" inside the panel... ie. full apps/designers where you can see exactly what the output looks like in Cobra.

Well... I've definately got to tip my hat to you Graham... Cobra definately looks like it is going to be a very successfull language.

Would it be possible for someone to make a simple (3D?) game in Cobra and the same in Blitz and have them both show the frames per second so that we can compare them?
