Actually, it will. by Windows 8 Blue. Or Windows Azure. Or something. Which will only increase the amount of walled-off control-freak apple-esque bullshit that MS is pulling.

Windows 7 is the last good Windows. Linux is looking good for the future.

Possibly... Especially now the Raspberry Pi is being taken more seriously.

I will have no sympathy for Microsoft when it all goes tits-up.

Linux was always good but the developers never quite resolved the issue with drivers and windows software comparability.

If that had been done long ago then the software would have gained more control over the market.

And happy new Year to you all

Linux is looking better to me because of the increase of indie game development in Linux and because of Valve's new focus on Linux for Steam.
Windows becoming arse is just the prod.

I wouldn't be at-all surprised if Microsoft and Apple suddenly announced they are merging or something, the sooner the better in my opinion, that would be another nail in the coffin for closed development.

August!!!

Anyway, I for one hope that Win8 goes the same way as 2k and Vista and is scrapped as soon as possible.

Windows Blue

Once Windows Blue is released, the Windows SDK will be updated to support the new release and Microsoft will stop accepting apps that are built specifically for Windows 8, pushing developers to create apps for Blue.

Maybe I'll drop Windows support for Project Dollhouse alltogether...

It should be called "Windows Blew!" and Windows 8 will still blow all the time it is being influenced by what ever was created by Steve "Blow" Jobs.

Steve Jobs never created anything in his life. He ordered people who created things to make things shinier, or thinner, or lighter, or higher-res, or with bluetooth - he was a marketing genius who knew what he could sell. But created? Bah.

True enough and not only did he throw his toys out of the pram when he didn't get his own way, he threw the pram with them.

Linux and because of Valve's new focus on Linux for Steam.

As soon as Valve gets your average Joe on board, I reckon you'll see everything that's bad on Windows and OSX will end up on there too, big hairy arsed icons, tucking away of the main system files, lots and lots of hand holding, basically, everything everyone whinges about.

So, yes, it is nice to see Linux make a move, but, Valve are pretty powerful and as such, I hope their influence doesn't end up in the decision making of the distro's it will be used on, though, I cannot help feeling that they will bend over backwards to appease Valve, since getting Valve on board is probably the biggest thing that's happened (In a commercial sense) the Linux based platforms since, well, I dunno... Ever?

Gonna be an interesting few years ahead for sure!

Urgh, I'm reinstalling Windows 7 on my lappy.
I managed to accidentally uninstall .NET Framework 4 (it shouldn't be that easy!!), and it doesn't show up in "Add/Remove Features".
When accessing "Advanced Startup Tools" (which was a hassle in and of itself) and trying to run System Repair, the damn thing won't run. It didn't even create the log that it said it did!
DISM also complains about an error (14098), but when looking it up on Google, I get no useful results. None that are applicable to Windows 8, anyhow.

Awful!

(Oh yeah, and I tried reinstalling it manually, but the installer has a built in "This system has this feature built in, so you don't need to install this!" feature!!)

It's somewhat suicidal to suggest it, but you might be better off sticking with Win8!!
If you can get things to run on your system, you can help your players to run them, too.
Sometimes it's better to know these things!

Microsoft is proving this isn't true. They have tried to copy this model by making things shinier, thinner, with classy marketing and it's been an utter failure. You can't put shit in a box and sell it no matter how hard you try. Apple wasn't shipping crappy products. They were just expensive and tightly controlled.

Windows 8 is crap. There are hardly any apps. It's missing essential features. It uses a new UI that is worse than the old one. And Microsoft has gone and destroyed it by announcing Windows Blue. All I can say is what the fuck is wrong with Microsoft these days?

I've been using Win8 now for a few months, I hardly use the Metro features and its great. Nice and fast, stable too. I added a third party "Start" button and its better than Win7 IMHO.

Putting shit in a box and selling it is how Jobs rescued Apple from going under.

you might be quite right. There was some website that I had found a while back that had a list of things that went into many of his creations that came from already existing technologies or products that failed.
Even some ideas from TV that were used.

People were whinging about privacy for a few weeks until they made it opt-out and most people stopped caring. The few people who did still care were swept away by the others who were tired of the subject.

Care to explain why the iMac is shit?

Let me guess:
- overpriced
- underpowered

Yeah, those aren't real reasons. The product works and customer satisfaction proves it. But you know, it was probably just Jobs trickin' everyone again with his magic powers.

Are you upgrading to Windows 8? Why isn't Microsoft's clever marketing tricking you? Because people aren't stupid enough to buy something that is awful. Maybe you can get an initial wave of people to buy it, but the word will spread and demand will decline rapidly.
