Hi, introducing... Myself

Hi folks.... Stumbled upon this site and I decided to create an account and we'll see how things go.

My name is Jeroen, I'm (on the moment I wrote this) 44 years old, and I live in the South of the Netherlands. No I don't live in Holland, I need to travel about 60km or so North to reach Holland. Maybe a bit more, maybe a bit less... I was never good in estimating distances. The Netherlands is bigger than just Holland, you know

If you wonder how to pronounce my name... Well in Dutch the J is pronounced as the Y as in "Yes", and "oe" is pronounced as "oo" as in "boo". Learn to "roll" the R a bit, and you'll do fine.

I've been coding since I was 8. On an old home computer (I'm ancient, I know) in BASIC (like many of members of my generation), and now I know several programming languages including, but not limited to Pascal, C#, Lua, Go, and BlitzMax... And I also developed the NIL language (which works rather as an extension to Lua. I'm still brainstorming to make it also work on JavaScript or not).

Aside from coding I've also been active as a novel writer (I write in Dutch), I've administrated several sites in the past, and up to recently I was a moderator on Game Jolt, and I run a few communities there now. I also like a good game of darts and pool (I am not very good, but I just like to play anyway). I like to eat (and cook) dishes based on rice, and I absolutely hate sauerkraut and rice-millk-porridge.

I have a bit of a sarcastic nature, so please don't take everything i say too literally, and learn when I'm joking. And well, I am basically as nice to you as you are nice to me.

Wanna know more? Just ask me anything, as I have little secrets (no I won't give you my passwords. I didn't say I have no secrets, I only don't have much)

Welcome aboard.
I think most of the folk that are still here also tend to have a dry sarcastic sense of humour. .. which is probably why everyone else has disappeared! So, um. Yeah.!!

Hi

Oh, really? Is sarcasm really that scary?

Between that and my occasional* rants, I think I've singlehandedly driven off quite a lot of users!

FYI : Necroposts, double posts, etc.
In my opinion, it's ok, as long as people aren't doing stuff like lazily bumping a topic.
If you legitimately have something to post, you should never be afraid to post it (within the rules of the forum and common decency!!)

Anything new is good!

Ah, good.... It's always a bit of testing the waters as some communities really have whiners for moderators, and you can never know beforehand how people are here, so I always take the careful approach at first.
Good to know you got an open-minded approach on stuff

Main rules here are.. No politics, no religion. Both of those are flame-war kindling.
I occasionally let a thread exist for a few hours, when some horrendously nasty bit of politics shows up (more and more, recently) but they tend to get closed at the first sign of trouble.

Hi Jeroen! Lovely first post and welcome aboard! Not many people around these parts. Some come and go (like me, but that's just me being lazy generally). Everybody is proper friendly here and usually quite sarcastic too... So I'm sure you will fit in well!

As for questions... Do you have any history of making games? Remakes? Always nice to hear what people do in their spare time.

Actually I do have a history in making games... Dating back from the DOS era even, although I lost most of those projects over the years.
And I've also made 3 big RPG games, and I also like to create puzzle games.

- Star Story, about the girl Wendicka Lovejoy and her surrogate sister Crystal McLeen, who wants to make a career in space, however when things go wrong, they become a mechanic and barmaid respectively. However when the space station where they live gets invaded by cyborgs, they have to flee in space and their adventure begins.
- The Secrets of Dyrt, about Eric, who thinks he's a loser, but why would the mysterious Order of Onyx hunt him down, then? And why does he get chosen by the holy dragons? It's a nice fantasy RPG taking place on Phantasar, which is the same world I write my novels about. I am currently trying to revamp that game.
- The Fairy Tale REVAMPED, a remake of a game I originally created ages ago. The Fairies and the humans have been at war for so long, that all they know is that they are supposed to hate each other. But then the human man Jake, and the Fairy girl Marrilona fall in love with each other. What however begins as a (maybe cliche) Romeo & Julliet kind of story will end up in a quest uncovering the deep secrets of Phantasar, and eventually the secrets behind the war.

My newest game is a puzzle game (with a bit of adventure theme, but it is in the first place a puzzle game, and a lot of people don't appear able to see the game for what it is) is Cynthia Johnson, in which you are a female archeologist. who has to puzzle her way out of puzzles themed on ancient realms. The game starts easy, but as you go on, it will be harder and harder to get through. The game is meant for people who like to use their brains.

Wanna know more about my games?

No politics, no religion. Both of those are flame-war kindling.

I guess I shouldn't promote my game "Star Story" on this site then, as the story line does have a lot of (hidden) political statements. And yeah, I've seen tons of flame wars lately related to politics, as soon as the name of a certain president pops up, the lovers and haters are in war stance, so I can understand you want to avoid topics like those. And the only note I can make about religion is that I am not really a religious person, and as long as people don't oppress their beliefs to me, I'm fine with anything.

Everybody is proper friendly here and usually quite sarcastic too... So I'm sure you will fit in well!

Oh, that makes me happy.

Welcome,

"Next to Zeeland"? Somewhere in the region of Bergen-Op-Zoom? I live in Breda myself, but I won't go more exact than that on a public forum (for obvious reasons).
And if I like it here... well so far, the welcomes were warm, so that's a good start. And you know the proverb "Een goed begin is het halve werk"? (Translation: A good start is half the work).

Yes, Bergen op zoom. Not that far away from you.

We were in the news recently(nos news) when they used a explosion on a atm machine. It was the one that I always use. Luckely there is another one next to it, this one was blown up a while ago also!

For a minute I though you might have been the guy nearby here that worked on the deuteros remake, but I checked and his name was bart

Well, I don't have a car and Roosendaal is still between us,so it's still quite a hike.
Always odd to speak English to a countryman... Well, this is a public forum after all, folks... It would be rude to speak a language people don't understand here
You'll have to forgive me about that ATM news... I mean there are so many ATM bombings lately that I hardly realize when one has happened so close to me, unless it's the ATM I use myself.
And no I was not involved in Deuteros. Now I do have a cousin named Bart, but the surname behind Deuteros didn't match (I checked too).

I'm guessing you've never played "Altered Beast"...?

Look it up on YouTube and laugh!

We're all old farts around here and retrogamers and retrocreators, for the most part.

Uhm... no that title doesn't ring a bell, sorry... I hope I remember to look it up. I was pretty ill today, and I've wasted a whole day in which I wanted to code pretty complicated stuff... Do you know how that feels?
All old farts? Well that's good to know

@Pakz
Okay, and now I did seer Bergen-Op-Zoon in the news.... A car crashing into a church.... Yikes.

We're not *all* old farts. Although I'm pretty quiet round here these days, so yeah.

Welcome aboard Tricky! Nice to meet you.
