Teaching Tuesday

Can you teach us something that's somehow relevant to this week's theme? Maybe a link to something useful, or even writing up a small tutorial.

Black on white is nice and bright,
While white on black can look like night.
Orange and Cyan are contrasting hues,
Since the reds on the spectrum are opposite blues.

But a hue change isn't always just what you mean,
When some people can't distinguish between,
The coloured hues in the games that you write,
So be sure you've a mode that's more black and white.

Xerox PARC developed the first GUIs and some very contrasty systems.

They invented Smalltalk and InterLisp (forked from BBN Lisp) systems .
These were (and are) full featured programming environments originally backed by ARPA (Now DARPA) for AI work.

There is an InterLisp revival project that allows you to install the system on Linux. Mac, and Windows.

I wrote a very small game in InterLisp for the Lisp Game Jam (only one to my knowledge on itch.io)

Anyway, these systems were lightyears ahead fo the competition at the time with Steve Jobs stealing fire from Xerox to go on and make the first Apple UI.
While the home market plodded along in stuff like CP/M and DOS variants, Xerox PARC was doing amazing things.

This was early AI, and eventually would get buried during the second "AI winter" with Lisp Machines in general. (Some of which had hardware support for Lisp down to the chips themselves.)

I have a local copy that I tinker with on occasion and am grateful to have such a historic thing for free.

Worklog Wednesday

What have you done this week? This needn't be relevant to this week's theme. Just let us know what you're up to.

I've not been doing music, this year, so I've decided to make a proper start on a Musical Advent Calendar which I can post over Advent this year.
I now have three whole tracks at the ready. They'll be instrumentals, so I can add them easily into JSE, so I'll be trying my best to theme them to particular gameplay styles.
.. But .. ssshhh.. That's a secret, for Advent.. You don't know about that, ok!!

Meanwhile, AGameAWeek's July theme has been picked. "Banana Bang", so there'll be games with bananas and occasional explosions. I've been planning ahead to get ready for making Banana themed games.
I kinda feel like a "QBasic Gorillas" remake might be showing up, this month. Hmmm.

Oh, and continued Browsercade refit work, but .. My good grief, it's been too hot to code anything!!!

For me this week has been BlitzMax and boring Java Swing/Thymeleaf/PostgreSQL stuff. I'm looking to do some public health service with my State but it's hard to find consistent data in my region from the CDC (Center for Disease Control) web API.

Speaking of heat, we hit 99 degrees today. 37.2 Celsius.
Montana gets extremes. -30 in the Winter 100+ in the Summer where Iive.
Looks like the low was -45 in Bozeman and 108 in Loma last year.

> Reveal 🔎
Munchie was a high contrast cat.
Munchie was very friendly, and cuddly.

> Reveal 🔎
Gabby was only high contrast when sat beside dark things.
Otherwise she wasn't very high contrast.
