Cheers Spinal, every little helps.

I did use a PS3 and XBox controller during early development. I'll have a look and see what's gone wrong.

What is the PS3 doing/not doing? Wired/wireless?

wireless p3s controller, no buttons work on the controls screen, O crashes back to ouya menu.

Thanks for that. Hopefully sort it next week.

Bloody controller setups are chaotic at best. I keep asking the review team (although, I'm starting to think "team" might not be the case!!) to test my games with all available controllers, but I'm pretty sure they're doing bog all, and just being happy that my games work with the standard controller.. Grrr!!

Sorry, I was meaning to try out your game, today, but then my Amstrad CPC wire came, and I got to play "attempt to resurrect the dead computer" for a few hours before giving up.. I'll play your game tomorrow.. Sounds like more fun!!

Cool. The OUYA controller works fine though

I'd like to pick your brains about the whole iap side of things if you don't mind. Haven't a clue where to start, especially with the tax stuff.

Tax etc. is the easy bit. You just need to complete a W8-BEN form (see a dummy completed one here - socoder.net/uploads/214/W-8BEN.zip). And complete your banking details.

The IAP is a PITA. Make sure you read what each item is for on the Dev Portal - unlike me. I fucked up, hence why AquaVenture has the addtional "OUYA Edition" tag.

IAP took longer to get working than coding the game TBH, although that's because I relied on an external library that had a few bugs in it.

Monkey should have this covered - I know Caff seemed to have no problems.

once the above is taken care of, whats the deal with income tax? I believe that Apple didn't sort any of that for you, no doubt OUYA are the same?

Yeah, I very much doubt that OUYA will do that for you. At least the CSVs that they supply are better than Apple's.

I don't expect to make more than a tenner though, so I'll not worry about that just yet.

Also, I'd like to make a suggestion about the controls, I like the one-tile-per-move thing, but how about removing the delay on a new button press? so instead of tap....tap....tap.... the player can tap, tap, tap. This would keep the mechanic but allow quicker movement.
Also, I don't know if it already should or not, the menu button doesn't return to title screen, or it seems, do anything at all.

love the game

That's not going to happen - later levels require absolute and precise control; one mistake can screw up a whole level immediately - I'd rather the player knew it was their fault rather than blaming my control scheme. Also, changing the speed of movement would affect the rocks and clams etc. You can't move while they are active.

I thought about a "HOME" key already, but discounted it pretty quickly. I saw no need to return to the title screen really - you are either going to play the game and restart or exit the game via double tap of the OUYA button. The menu only allows playing from the beginning, continuing (which if you're already playing you are already continuing) or purchase of app. Unless you can think of a good reason to include one.

Glad you're enjoying it though

Cheers

I didn't want to spend too much extra time buffing it up (or adding extra levels) over the original Pandora version, as I wasn't sure if the extra time would be a wise investment or not. That was probably a wise decision. It's sold 8 copies so far according to OUYA analytics, out of 99 unique downloads - which makes it easy to see that uptake/attachment is around 8%, which is around average from what I've read.

Yeah, a good plan.. Get it out, then see if there's enough attention before putting too much time and effort into it.
There's nothing worse than struggling on with something that doesn't have an audience.
Seems to be grabbing plenty of attention, though, so should be fine.

FWIW : It's currently got a higher O-Rank than any of my games!

The O-Ranking looks just plain daft to me. All of your games have more re-playability than AV. There are some pretty good (and much better looking) games much lower down that list too.

I can never understand why emulators or media players are included and always rated highly in any form of rankings, as by themselves they don't actually do anything. How much fun are these to play with without any media? None. But users look at them and automagically include a range of media in their review/feedback. Now what are they actually reviewing?

Obviously we hope our time and effort in making games isn't wasted - whether it be financially or critically, which is why OUYA is still a bit of a mystery at this stage.

AAARRRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

I have discovered an unfortunate 'feature'

It would appear that if you go into the Options menu, then you loose your save game

Do you? That's never happened before. I'll investigate.

I do.

Played a few levels, exited, reloaded, continued, everything fine. Played a couple more levels just to be sure, exited, reloaded, went to settings, exited settings, continued -- level 0

bah.....

Went back to play it and guess what? Yup my save had gone! no Options menu or anything this time

I'm going to move it to internal storage instead of USB HDD, maybe that'll help...

Well bugger.
Got to the end of the demo, bought the game, two screens later I'm utterly stumped.
Stupid squids.

LOL. I lulled you into a false sense of security. You are now mine!!!

Seriously, the squids/octopi are the hardest "enemy" in the game, but are fairly easy to avoid once you work out their movement patterns. I can post a step by step guide to overcoming the level if required.

Cheers BTW
