I use Photoshop and Pixelmator. Oddly enough, they're about equal for the things I do. (I paint everything, which is usually a foreign concept to most folks using image editing software, since they just use vectors, filters, and layer effects.)

Cant afford photoshop, pixelmator is ok, but I find the precision of the pointer to be absolutely dreadful.

My current method = fire up windows in virtualbox, use psp7 for the pixeling and stuff that I can't get pixelator to do, such as pattern-fill. then swap into pixelmator for text layers. unfortunately, after adding text, there is no way back once a text layer is added
