Socoder -> Question of the Day -> QOTD : Cheap and neat graphical tricks

Jayenkai
The other week (Painter) I discovered a neat effect for floor tiles.
I figured Spinal might want to know this for his Sensitive game's floor, but others might use it, too.

So, why not open a nice big sprawling topic whilst I'm at it!
Post your own neat graphical tricks here.

Cheapass Parallax Water
Step 1, draw a floor.
Step 2, cut out part of the floor.
Step 3, parallax the two layers, with the cutout-version on top.

Works for water quite nicely, and gives your plain floor a little extra depth.

Hurts the eyes a bit, but if it was a bit darker it would be really good water for a sprite-ish game. Nice work Jay
