I went to the HP web site and they are already sold out. If I go to best buy they may be gone as well.

You're a few days late to the game. The website I bought mine on sold out in under two minutes and most retailers were sold out within an hour.

DNA However the programming and OS restrictions may be a problem for me since support is limited

HP still stands behind web OS. The impression I'm getting is that they plan to license it to hardware manufacturers. I wouldn't say the OS is restricted either. I've been learning how to write apps in it and I'm pretty impressed. Applications are written in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and games can be written in C++ using OpenGL.

I don't understand why it sold so well. Sure, it's cheap...but it's a completely different and unsupported OS...isn't it?

It's $99. Even if it only does web browsing, that's enough to sell it. It has built-in Skype, as well as AIM, MSN, and Yahoo. Email. YouTube. Flash. Photos and videos. Maps. Music. Kindle. Calendar. Great multitasking and notifications. Very polished UI. It's not too shabby. It can be laggy at points and sometimes the whole thing crashes. There also aren't a ton of great apps. I'm going to see if I can use that to my advantage though.

Stealth is right. It's the price that got the deal monger customers going. That and fact that TouchPads are fairly new and not many could afford one to play with.

It was a good deal and a good item. HP should have never thrown it out. They never gave the item time to develop which could have been the idea of the new CEO they got a few months ago. He's pushing the company down the wrong path. He wants to go more into the cloud.

I put my name on the so called waiting list if there are any more of the items. But the demand might not let them get to me.

I've released six apps on webos phones over the last 6 months or so. It's a lovely OS on good hardware (I've got a Pixi, Pre Plus and a Pre2). On the lookout for a cheap TouchPad too.

Does anyone know why it was only Best Buy? I checked at Target and Walmart and they have them for 499 US.

What happened?

I downloaded and installed the WebOS SDK for palm and the now defunct TouchPad.
The javascript can be ported over to iPad or something else it appears.
Running virtual Box for the first time and watching the text scroll.

Did you go in to the store or are you looking online? Target and Walmart will both honoring the prices if you ask and talk to the right person.

You have to actually ask the people at Walmart to check their systems for the updated price.
