Which is Better 8Bit Basic? ZX Speccy Vs Amstrad Cpc Vs C64?

I seem think Amstrad cpc win hand down...

you?

Given that the CPC (Locomotive Basic) was the only one of the three that did not have an ultra-stupid keyboard layout, it wins *just* because of that.

Language capability is not even a factor.

I grew up with CPC, so... That's my fave!
I've heard that the Speccy was great at maths, but haven't seen anything specific to prove that claim!!

Locomotive BASIC was simply the best BASIC of the time due to the fact it was just so simple to use and welded quite a bit of power to the BASIC programmer.

It had graphics, windowing, direct access to the sound chip, language extensions (RSX's), memory management, along with CALL allowed you to interface with assembly.

Commadore BASIC and speccy BASIC were just crappy implementations of a BASIC interpreter.

I am biased, but, I'm not lying!

Yeah, you need only look at the sheer variety of stuff in the Amstrad's manual to see the amount of power that CPC's Locomotive Basic gave you.

I have code all 3 basic.

ZX Speccy? I don't seem get on with it for some reason!

C64? No problem

CPC? No problem but it does offer more graphics mode and more colours!

BBC basic... It's what we had at school

I'll have to go with CPC (Locomotive) BASIC too - I achieved a great number of early games in it and ACU had loads of BASIC type-ins that were very good.

Although to be fair, I did try C64 (and Vic 20) and Speccy BASIC to only a very limited degree. BBC BASIC... Now that's a name I've not heard in a very long time

What about Atari Turbo Basic XL? they seem be faster than the rest and also colours palette seem be better than C64!

Nothing Atari was better than anything Commodore.

One of the best things the BBC BASIC had, was inline assembly in BASIC programs, it was a cool trick... Though not included in Locomotive BASIC like the BBC version, locomotive BASIC still let you add machine code, but that isn't the same... It was only when Maxam was released you could do inline assembly in CPC BASIC, which was cool!

Anyway, I spent many a break time piss balling about with that!

QBasic. Definitely QBasic, I made so many lil things with that!

When I got a hold of Version 4.5 and could compile EXEs I was so excited!

I never used QBasic, due to not programming at the time... Between leaving school until Tiny.com sold me a crappy laptop... Not one drop of code wrote... Plenty of bottles of cider chucked in though!

Though, including that, and all the examples above, wasnt it just nice to have a nice little programming language bundled with the OS... Granted Linux usually comes with gcc and all that preinstalled (And python, scratch)... But somehow, it isnt the same is it.

I used to do field tech support and hated doing anything with Tiny PCs (them and Mesh). Absolute bitch to get into and do anything with, and the cases were often the most non-conformist piece of crap you've ever seen.

On top of that, they had a nasty habit of glueing cables into the sockets which served no fucking purpose whatsoever. :s

I had a TINY pc too (bought at the same time as the laptop). That motherfucker lost me two HDs worth of Div stuff due to two power failures within two weeks of each other. The stupid fucks that ran the support teams at TINY shipped back the pc each time with wiped or new HDs. The second time they even sent back a different underspecced machine!

lol, for shits and giggles:-

Dump that in WinAPE's assembler, assemble it, type this in BASIC:-

And voila:-

A special SoCoder RSX command!!! Yayyyyyyyyyyyyy

That was fun!
